I have an '02, does that have a 17 tooth sprocket stock? I want a little more highway range, so would I go with an 18 tooth? I wanted to wait until I got my big bore done before I swap so I dont lose any power on take-off, and thats getting installed next Thursday(finally!!). Does it really make that big of a difference, and will my rpms be lower by more than one or two hundred? I'm getting everything ready for my trip to Sturgis, want to get max range and good two up power.

Yep, it makes the difference and it lowers the rpm by 400 ~ 500.

That's what came on my '04 but you have to remember I bought mine used. It's easy enough to tell, it's stamped on the sprocket and easy to see if you simply pull the cover. I do have to say there are times I miss that hooligan-off-the-line moment with the 17 but for me the 18 is more comfortable for cruising. Truthfully, I haven't really noticed much difference between the two going up and down the mountains but maybe I like to wind it out going up hill more than most

yes 17 is stock on the BA ..... SM has a 16 stock I belive. I run the 18 also, and unless taking off on a steep hill I do not notice the lack of low gearing. The 19 was too "tall" for me, but some here like the 19 better. Depends on what you want and where you ride I guess.
BA has Freak, 160mains, 44pilots, air mix3 1/2 to 4 turns, BUBS dresser dogs. Never had more fun on any bike - 2nd bike 2008 RIIIT

Well, I'm getting the 904 next week, so I'm just looking for a little more highway range, I think the power will be fine after the install. I still want my giddee-up off the line too, so 18 will probably be as high as I need to go. I will keep the 17 around though, just in case. Thanks!!
