G'day
I was wondering does anyone know of a solid luggage compartment / box with a flip top lid and lock that would mount on to a sissy bar luggage rack ( tall one ) ?

Have you looked at Givi as a starting point?

I know Bill here has put a Givi box on the back of his luggage rack. I don't know which model he used though so you might want to PM him. That is his username by the way, Bill.

I got a good deal on an Emgo trunk off ebay. It came with a backrest pad mounted to it. I found that even after removing the pad, there wasn't enough luggage rack to mount it securely, and it wouldn't open all the way - lid hits the sissybar. Just some points to consider.
It may all work well with the pad left on and the sissybar removed, but then you have to put spacers on the luggage rack bolts to take up the clearance from removing the sissybar....

I used a Triumph to box with little mod.

Are those Triumph saddle bags as well? Fixed or removable?

yes , Triumph side bags as well.
removable with e-z-brackets.
a good deal of work to get them to mount to the brackets.

photopost does not work.
I use photobucket to host my photos and link to them there.

I removed the rear peg hanger completely.
the rear peg mount has a stud that is the same thread
as the peg hanger bolts, just screw it in the lower hole.
use washers to index it to the correct position and
red loc-tite to make sure it stays snuggly in place.

Where did you get those saddle bags?

I got my bags from ebay.
any top box will work from a tiger , sprint or trophy.
any side bags will work , but the bags from a tiger
take more modifications than the others.

Thanks Pete. Your bike really looks good. I am thinking about finding a luggage trunk with a big backrest for my wife, that also will hold at least one full face helment. I have the Triumph luggage rack and backrest, but I know I will have to remove the upright backrest. Does the luggage trunk mount easily on the luggage rack, and is it more comfortable for the passenger than the regular tall Triumph backrest?

yes you need to remove the backrest.
you will then need spacers to make up the space left
by the removal of the back rest.

the topbox is make for a luggage rack that is a completely
different shape.
I added brackets to the bottom of the box to fit our rack.
if you are careful with the bracket placement you can
still use lock the box to the rack.
notice the 2 brackets on the movable handle.




as for the backrest, I just used the one I had on the bike.
My top box had 2 holes in it from the original pad, I just made the 4 hole bike pad fit where I wanted it.

ps, some of the boxes came with a small pad , some did not.
the one you get may not have any holes drilled in it.
