I've been reading BikerThug's Weisco thread with a mixture of admiration, envy and horror: admiration for his courage in doing the mod himself; envy at the satisfaction he'll have when it all comes out right, and realizing I will never have that feeling; and horror at the idea that anyone would willingly and knowingly dissect their baby in such a manner, regardless of their good intentions.

And yet...904cc for my TBA seems like such a good idea that I have to ask:

1. Where do the real gains come in, horsepower, torque or both? low-, mid- or high-rpm range?
2. If I were to pay to have the work done, what's a reasonable labor cost?
3. Does anyone offer the kits at a discounted price?
4. Does installation invalidate the warranty?

More HP, more torque in all ranges.

I heard od guys that are paying between $1200-$2000 to get them done at a shop. That depended on if you furnished the kit and the other necessary parts (Gaskets, o-rings etc.)

3. Does anyone offer the kits at a discounted price?
Check with BelaCorse and NewSpeedmaster, they both periodically have the kits on sale. $400 is on sale.

4. Does installation invalidate the warranty?
Absolutely. This is a major motor modification and I abso-guarantee your warrantee is history as soon as you do this mod. That's why I waited until the warranty was up, just.

Let me explain it this way. Below is a picture of our Clearing Press we use at work.



It's a 60 ton press (meaning the force it can exert), and it stamps out about 20,000 brackets a day (our product). We have as much right as anybody to call this press "our baby" (just as you called your TBA "your baby"). This Clearing Press is our "goose that lays the Golden Egg." Yet, last year, we tore that press all the way down and gave it a complete overhaul. Now it runs better than ever. So, although we tend to personalize machinery by calling them "our baby," - we really should remember that these things are just mechanical devices.

So, since it's a long winter ahead (here in the "Great Northwest), you can bet your bottom dollar "my baby" will be ready for Spring (Lord willing, of course).
