Finally got around to trying this, gotta say good very good. I think It may end up replacing Bass as my favorite import. Very smotth slightly sweet after taste. Yep I can see myself pounding these things down. bit pricy here at about $8.50 a six pack.

Yup, it's what I get with my lunch or dinner when I go to the local. You might want to try Wally World, they sometimes have it at a decent price.
Too bad you can't get Toheys Old here in the states, that is some gooOOD stuff!

Excellent beer. Jack, how far are you from New Jersey? There's a place called Total Wine & More and they have places in Cherry Hill, West Orange, River Edge, and Union. We have one of these places here I get Newcastle there for about $11 a 12 pack. http://www.totalwine.com/

"New Jersey" ? 3 maybe 4 hrous depending on traffic plus the tolls. I'd be better off heading up to New Hampshire see if they have it in the state stores.(no taxes). Just have to be carful not to buy too much in one trip, Or else the CT booze gestapo might target me.

Most excellent beer, that there New Castle!!
Another fine ale that I really like is McEwans 90, but I haven't been able to find it in the States.

OK guys and gals flame away, but I honestly think the New Castle Brown Ale is over-rated. It's not bad mind you, but not $8.50 a 6-pack good.
When not brewing my own or up to paying retail for Ireland's finest contribution to world harmony (Guinness)......
Try a $5.40 6-pack of Yuengling's Porter. I can't recommend their lagers, but the Porter is surprising.
If you like Newcastle, trust me on this one ......
Regards,
Tom

Newky brown is a nice pint. Tom mentioned McEwans Export, another nice pint. One to try if you can get it is 'Old Speckled Hen', top stuff. Guinness Extra Cold at the pump is definately my fav though. But quite expensive @ $4.70 a pint \o/ or from an off-licence $8.80 for 4 draughts in a can (ya know, with the widget). Never had Toohey's though. But I'm off upto Dent again next weekend camping so I'll be stocking up on T'owd Up

Acuddoonabroon! I was stationed in Shefford, Bedfordshire, in the early '80s. My buddies and I would go out to the local, and try as many different beers as possible, rating each brew as we went. In 2 years, we tried over 300 beers: Newcastle Brown was my personal favorite, hands down. It's the only beer, to me, that tastes good with food (exception: pizza&beer is always good ). Buy it by the 12-pack, Jack, the price is better.

I agree, I used to drink Newcastle back when I still drank and loved it. I have tried Yuengling Porter and it's OK but not up there with Newcastle in my book.

Broon Ale or "Dog" as it is known in it's home city comes with some specific instructions on drinking.
A bottle of Newcastle Brown (pint) should be served with an empty schooner type glass (half pint) and poured so as to form a head. The glass should be topped up periodically to maintain that head before the glass is empty.
When the glass is empty one should return to the bar and purchase another and repeat the process but with a clean glass.
These guidlines were actually printed on the reverse of the bottle label at one stage.
A very good beer and one with some heritage. My understanding is that it shares it's birthday (1927) with the completion of the construction of the Tyne Bridge.
I am conscious that this is turning into a bit of a lecture so I will shut up now

+1 on teh Yuenglings Dark Porter - very tasty. I also think it is far superior to New Castle, but a darker beer that might be too much for some folks. Maybe Tom and I are getting the good stuff down here in the Southern states... Quote:

I tryed some "Blue Moon" on draft a few weeks back at a new pizza place. It seemed to me very good clean tasting beer.Had some if it in bottles on sale $10.99 for twelve pack,so I splurged and got it.I was not disapointed.Again a very good tasting beer. It's Canadian.I do not buy the imports much unless they are on sale do to the cost.Nice treat for something different.
