I just went to Brents site to order oil and found that he no longer offers Amsoil oil or filters. he now has Motul 5100 ester oil and K$N filters. Is this a fully synthetic oil? Is this oil as good as Amsoil? I've been useing Amsoil on the recommendation of the members of this site, and have always bought from Brent.

I don't know if motul is as good as Amsoil but after my last oil change, I don't care. I had let the oil change go for a little over 5000 miles before I changed the oil. When I did, the old oil still had some gold color to it. Granted, this was the first time I had used the Amsoil 20/50 in my bike. I had been using 10-40. I just put 10-40 in her this change but may go back to 20-50. I will let you know.

Also, check your local honda, kawasaki or suzuki shop. They may have this filter. I get mine 4 at a time from a local cycle shop for $5.50.

Basically it is ok, but it doesn't compare all that well to Amsoil. I would not recommend any syn oil that uses primarily ester base stocks (it is old technology). Amsoil uses a blended syn with some ester base stock. To much ester and certain properties of the oil are adversly affected.

Contact a local Amsoil dealer. They will be very happy to help you. If for some reason you cannot get in contact with a local dealer go to amsoil.com and request a catalog. They will provide you with the closest dealer to you and send a catalog. If this doesn't work you can order directly from amsoil.com and you can use my customer number 274660.

Check this PDF file out. In it Amsoil does a comparison against several other oils including Motul. I think it is dated sometime in 2003.

Thanks Tom, I just received a e-mail from amsoil, But i don't understand it. They don't give me any local dealer info. and no mention of a catalog. How do I place a order with them. Am I missing something. Brent sent me an explanation about how Amsoil won't let him sell it through his web site. thats a shame, because it made it easy to order. Oh well...

I just took a look at AMSOILs site and they have an online store now, only thing you gotta figure out now is which oil and part number you need. Just guessing here, but wonder if that's why Brent can't sell it online anymore...online competition?

Hmmm, a Wiseco big bore kit eliminates the need for all this syn. oil business.....(it has cast iron liners AND forged pistons).

When you go to the Amsoil website at the top left click on CONTACT US. From there you can order a Catalog, fine your nearest dealer and a bunch of other related things. If you click on Fine Your Nearest Dealer, then you can enter your information and they should be able to provide you with further information. Let me know how this works, also you can add any comments you have to Amsoil in this area.

They might have it setup so that the dealer in your area contacts you after you have requested information on the nearest dealer.

Cast iron liners and forged pistons do not eliminate the need for a good lubricant. You still have a multitude of other things inside an engine that need to be lubricated well.

A good syn oil does a number things much better than a petroleum oil. your engine will run cooler, smoother and longer with a syn oil. Plus when you change the oil nothing will be left behind, unlike a petroleum based oil which leaves varnish and wax and dirt that it has accummulated making gunk. A good syn oil has no paraffins (which is a component of petroleum oil) to form varnishes or waxes.
