We rode scooters all over cozumel, Mexico. It was a blast. It was actually better than having a bike. Those little scooters can zip in and out of those small congested streets! Of course the scooters wouldn't do more than about 40-45mph....

Learning from my mistakes... again and again.

Would you ever ride a scooter in full leathers?

Nope! I used to sneak out once in a while on my cousin's 2 speed Cushman until I got a real motorcycle, but not now. With those itsy bitsy wheels, they are just too instable.

Rode scooters through the streets of Key West a few years back. Had a blast. Scooters are alright just dont try to be James Dean on it.
Know your place, shorts sneakers,etc

I rode scooters as a kid and i still like the retro looking ones but not the modern jobbies. I tries a suzuki burgman once but i decided that would be my last bike, not my next one.

You bet, I'd ride one. I like the look of the older ones too.
Quick story. A pipefitter friend of mine has been riding since childhood (he's 57 now). His wife died 16 years ago and her insurance got him out of debt. Since her passing, he works 4 months a year and rides 8 months, everywhere in North America on his BMW, GoldWing and Ultra. He bought a Burgman 650 cheap from a guy hard up for cash. After riding the Suzuki scooter around Jasper, Alabama a few weeks, he was called to go to Dallas, Texas on a sprinkler job. He rode the Burgman out there just to check it out. He came home and sold his HD and Gold Wing, then ordered a new Burgman 650. He said it's the best touring bike he's ever ridden. That's a testimony. But like someone said in Georgia a couple weeks ago, "It's still a scooter".
I'd like to have one of those or a SilverWing, just to have one.

Should this be in "Other Scooters"?

Yes, there is a place and time for things, In the right setting, and some of the newer 500cc and up scooters could be a useful commuting machine. Surprised they are not more popular with $4.00/gallon gas here.

Holy Crap!!! Just out of curiosity, I googled "Burgman 650". Not only did I surprisingly find that it's a Suzuki, but that it costs as much as a TBA! As "neat" as it looks for a scooter, for the money...

Yes, it should be in "Other Scooters".
Seriously, tho, one of the North Alabama fellows that joins us in group charity rides here has some kind of Yamaha 400 or 500 cc scooter and he has absolutely no problem maintaining his position with the HDs or any of the rest of us, or ripping through the twisties (much to the chagrin of the HD riders). It's not my favorite "look" but it's a ride on two wheels and I gotta respect that. Plus, he's ridden "The Dragon" on it and I have yet to make the trip

I tell Wendy I want an old Vespa from time to time and she yells at me and says NO! I would love to have an old Vespa in that deep red they used to use. I think the ones I was looking at were made in the 50s. I saw a place where they recondition them so it's like buying a new one.

What is that thing with 2 front tires? I saw one going south today on I15. I couldn't believe my eyes. Thanks to the bike, I was in the express lane going north so I didn't have much time to look.

I spent 35 days stranded on Hawaii's big island. Only transport I had was a rented moped does that count?

My sons all went through the scooter phase as there is not much anything else you can ride when 16 or 17. So I have been on Yamaha 50cc and Gilera 125 DNAs, both fun.

The yamaha was passed through the family and I recently gave it away to another young lad, when we where finished with it it had 28,000 miles on it (Got about 8,000 between needing rebored )
I would ride a scooter no bother.

Sure! I know a guy that works very close to home & he scooters often. More Americans need to warm up to bikes & scooters as an alternative to gas-guzzling 4X4 SUVs.

I won't give up my cycles for one, but I would enjoy having a Honda Silverwing. I would be extra mindfull of pot holes with the smaller wheels, but they could be fun around town. I might even convince my wife to ride it.

Lots of scooters are in the image of sportsbikes over here, making it hard to tell the differance sometimes (until you spot the shorts and trainers )

Its too bad that no American manufacturer has the brains to build and market somthing like this.

I'd use my "economic stimulus check" to one for the OL.
