Similar thing happened 2 or 3 years ago here in Laconia. Tree came down and killed the passgener didn't hit the rider.
Karma strikes hard sometimes.

Here in South Florida we have a lot of coconut palm trees.
I personally have never seen a coconut fall.
One day my then-5 year old son and the neighbor girl were playing under a coconut palm. I looked at the kids, the tree, and said, "Don't play under there."

The next day there were 2 coconuts on the ground under that tree.
Score one for Dad.

You may think this a bit weird, but, over the years I have developed this phobia that I'm gonna fall victim to a falling tree. Not necessarilly on the bike, or even in a car - just yesterday I was hiking in the woods and thought about it several times. It hasn't gotten to the point where it stops me from doing stuff. It's just the thought - almost like a movie - of me getting wacked by a hunk of tree, that resides somewhere in the back of my mind.

Dr. Phil, can you hear my cry for help? Dr. Phil? Dr. Phil? Dr.?

No doubt, this was a tragic accident. I also know that on that same day, another fella was killed. It happened on Route 684 near exit 8. According to the papers, the guy "lost control" and went over a guard rail. I was riding my bike that day on the same highway. A friend of mine is a trooper and told me that the accident is under investigation. My guess is that the rider was reckless.

My friends son was driving his car and a tree fell on him. He is paralized and it killed his wife and kids. He has a multi million $ law suit right now and has already collected $90,000 for somewhere (not sure who or where that came from) I know him as well but am more friends with his father. Worst part is his brother was supposed to move in to take care of him and hasn't done anything but use him and sponge off him.

Most of the best roads in CT have a lot of very old overhanging trees. Makes for beutiful but some times hazardous riding. Have had acorns and small sticks bounce of my head more than once. After all the strong winds we have been having the last couple days,Fallen branches are all over the place around here.
