Chy, gave me a tip on this vendor at the GA. rally for a bolt on back rest. Mounts to the shock tower and rear fender support.

I called Pro Tech on Tuesday 5-6-08 and ordered the back rest for the America. After a couple of questions to make sure I was ordering the right one and a $130.00 later plus 8.00 for shipping it arrived today.

Took five minutes to install and went for an hour ride what a difference especially for a guys with bad backs. I have to say it was a great investment.

I would like to offer my support and recommendations for doing business with this company.

John

Just sent them an email. Is there a part number for the one you ordered?

Thanks again,

I have a Pro-Tac and Easy Brackets. No problem. They don't share the same mounting points.

Not a close-up, but there's a photo of Gary (greas)'s bike with the backrest and hard bags on page 3 of Di's photos in the "Ga. Rally photos" thread in Rides & Rallies section.

Yeah, sorry 'bout no pic. I'm not set up with another picture host, and I didn't want to mention the whole Photopost situation.

Got my Pro-Tac backrest today. As it turns out, I'm not going to use it as I just ordered a set of US Saddlebag Co. saddlebags (oh so nice!!) Before I send this back (of which they stated no problem, full refund minus $8.00 shipping charge,) does anyone want this? I'll ship it out for $132.00 (Continental US only.) Basically save you $8.00-$10.00 over what they would charge you. Just a thought...

It ended up costing me $140.00 shipped.

Thanks,
Jim

Just an update to let everyone know that the US Saddlebag Co. brackets do not interfere with the Pro-Tac backrest setup. But the SpeedMaster gunfighter OEM seat does. Bummer. I have no desire to modify the seat pan to make this work. Still, for those with an America saddle & US Saddlebags this setup will work!

I rode on AmyLee's bike out in AZ at the SWTF and she had one of these after I got back I inquired of the company if I can become a dealer (waitng for responce), it was really comfortable, better than the Corban I had for a short time.

All depends on how agile you are I suppose, but it is no thing for me to swing my leg over. AmyLee seems to have no trouble getting on and off.

Looks like it is removable by just pulling it out of the bracket? Is that correct?

Yes sir it is, however it is not something that will fall out. There is a small amount of tension on the seat rods that keeps it snuggly in place.

Jim,

Yes on the Easy Brackets...I know this for a fact. I even believe they will work with SOME saddlebag brackets.

For & Aft question I'll answer tomorrow. I was going to answer it with my suspicions but wanted to get the real answer from Pro-Tac but missed them for the day.

Looks like someone is going to have to buy himself a birthday present. Lets' see, its for my back, which is officially a disability, so I should be able to write this off as a medical expense. That's what I'll tell the wife. Yes, that should work.
