As the guitar solo kicked into full gear he decided that it had been long enough since his last ride. He found his gear right where he had left it ~~ the leather jacket, the half-helmet, and the worn gloves. He dressed quickly, opened the garage, and started the bike. He loved that sound almost as much as he loved "Free Bird", maybe even more. He backed the bike out, closed the garage, and headed...

west toward the ocean. He knew the smell of salty air and the cool breeze's off the ocean can best be experienced while riding a motorcycle. It allow's a rider to become one with his surroundings. A true feeling of freedom from the everyday stress of the world around him. As he reached the ocean he shut off the motorcycle trying to decide which direction he should take, north or south. He quickly decided and after restarting the bike he headed..........

in the direction that after sticking a wet finger in the air, put the wind to his back. With the sun setting and night comeing on, the air was getting thicker and the engine seemed to moan out a song that was sweet to his ears. the sound of that parallel twin thumping out a beat like no other engine between your legs could. he felt the load of life slowly be lifted from his mind, and the inner peace that only comes in the wind. he soon needed fuel and found himself stopping at a stopandrob with fuel and before he has dismounted he ia approched and ask

the attendant for the key to the restroom , where he found cool comfort in the water splashed on his face . The bugs and road grime swirled around the sink and spiraled downward into the descending vortex . Stepping back out into the lobby of the store , he was met by and older fellow , tall , long greying hair and a wrinkled smile came upon his face as he saw the Bonneville leaning seductively on its' sidestand . " You know , I used to ride one of those back in the day , my wife and I . He hesitated , but she's not here any more . I lost her a few years ago, and the funny thing is , I can still feel her comforting grip around my waist sometimes as I imagine how we used to ride everywhere together ". His voice quivered as he then said ,

...a "dresser", you know, one of those sofas on wheels. It's her only disappointment in an otherwise wonderful life. I guess she gets that need from her mother, that need to lean deep into a curve on a twisting mountain road and become one with the machine. Poor fellow, he doesn't even know. But his son will...

experience the exhilaration I did in my youth. So glad I kept the old bike around said the old man with a sly smile slipping out. With that they bid each other a nice day, paid the attendant for his fuel and strolled outside to his bike. He looked around at the surroundings of this place and marveled at life again. The black twin eagerly awaited to fire up and head back onto the tarmac. The sun was setting and the light of dusk in this place was soothing. The twin barked through the gears as they speed away.....

A short while later as the white lines whipped and zipped by. Over the steady rumble of the motor I became aware of somebody riding along behind me. I tried to see who was riding there to acknowledge a fellow rider but couldnt quite geta decent view. I knew now tha even when you feel alone on your bike there is always somebody riding with you. I wondered where my new riding buddy was heading....

because the twighlight was fast becoming dark, and the deer this time of year were thick. I needed to get to the campgroud a few miles ahead and set my tent for the evening. As we rounded the next couple of twisties, my riding buddy seemed to be in a hurry, so I pulled to the right, allowing enough room for him to take the lead. With a roar, my friend shot into the next set of twisties, a long blond braid flying out from under her helmet. "Wow, either this gal is crazy or....
But, what do I know?

she doesn't know what she's a bout to come upon.........maybe she does know and is trying to test me? I do know this road quite well and will just hang back a bit as it is already dark and the last time I tried to push these twisties too hard, I ended up a lot closer to the whiteline than I should have. Well, I don't need to hang back really..........just make sure I stay........

back far enough to appear aloof , yet close enough to court the growing curiosity of this ponytailed enigma of a rider . Obviously , by virtue of her unemcumbered style , she's a local . Is she married ? Where's her riding partner ? These and many more questions danced in my mind as I quickly regained focus on my navigating the ever tightening twisties . In a higher elevation , just my perception , for the air grew suddenly cooler on my skin , I noticed her red brake light as she pulled into a scenic overlook of sorts . I had only seconds to respond - do I continue on or do I pull over as well ? Is this an veiled offer for me to meet her ? I hastily pulled in the clutch , dropped down one gear , and

... with her back toward me, she pulled the full-face helmet from her head. Her hair fell even further down her back as it was released from the confines of her gear. She quickly removed her leathers, further defining her petite and rather fit torso. Without turning she bend down toward her front wheel and shook her head. Cautiously, I approached, searching for the right words, making sure there were no bugs, no road debris stuck to my face. As politely as I could be, I asked if there was a problem. Still in a crouched position, she turned her head to reply and she was a dude.

Hm.. stated nice and then it FIZZLED.
"It was a dark and stormy night as the sound of faraway artillery echoed in my ears in anticipation of the coming assault against the nazi hordes." My trusty triumph parallel twin roared to life as I holstered my weapon in in its scabbard and headed towards the trenches...."
