Has anyone found a shorter stalk for the rear signals, without buying new lamps?

If you can't find any you can have yours shortened.

There is a good discussion of this on the archives under the title "Shorter rear signal stalks?". I successfully made my own out of parts from the local custom shop. I really like the look of the shorter stalks much better than how they were stock. I've also relocated my safety sticker which further cleaned up the back end. Steven, looks like you did the same thing I did - hollow bolts and 1" chrome spacers. I ordered up the bits from jpcycles.com. I also got the 3/4 spacers but went with 1"ers because I still wanted to be able to hook bungies to them. Unfortunately my gallery isn't up to date so I don't have pics to share.

Hey Friar, how did you inscrew the rear pumpkins from their stalks? Or did you buy aftermarket signals? I have a spare set of rear signals that I am trying to fit onto my front signals, since I've relocated them, I don't want the pigtail wiring anymore, want the internal wires of the rears, ya know?

"Veeeery carefully."
I've still got the stock pumpkins. For some reason changing them for something cooler/sleeker isn't a high priority for me.
Actually I marred my stock long stalks getting them unscrewed. They were a real biatch. I think I wrapped them several times in tape and latched onto them with vice grips. That didn't work out so well. But if you have no intention of going back, it's not a big deal.
In about 30 years, when these bikes are worth some real money as classics and I want to restore it to original condition (yes I've saved everything I've taken off the bike), I'll just have them smoothed out and rechromed.

there is a slot that you can use to unscrew, but it's hard to find a wide enough screw driver blade, ya know?
