I have bought just one Ford in my life and it will remain that way. My SportTrack's transmission went bad right after the warranty expired. Yes we had to put a new transmission and since then no other major problems, but this just ****** me off too badly. 4 yrs, a new transmission after just 4 fraking years! The tow truck guy who according to him used to work for Ford told me that its a common problem for Furd's trucks... I wish I would have bought the Tundra instead.

The tow truck guy was wrong. Ford has their transmissions down to a science, and 04 sporttrack is no exception. Unfortunately you got one of the ones which fall somewhere out in the tail of the normal distribution of the statistics. I'm sorry for you and glad that (for once) it wasn't me. I hope that your reman unit lasts forever and you never have even so much as a headlamp failure. Look on the bright side, it could have been your bike. Serenity now!

A friend of mine has a 96 Explorer... same problem... 4yrs bam transmission gone. The tow truck guy sounded knowledgeable and seemed to know what he was talking about, he gave me no reason not to believe him. Doesn't matter since the damage is done and I'll never buy another Ford. If I ever buy American again it'll most likely be Chevy, always wanted to have a 'vette.
