I'm on my second Ranger. It's a no frills (although XLT) 2.3L, regular cab, 5 speed. 30 MPG on the highway. I wouldn't want to tow anything with it, but it'll haul anything I need to (including the bike). It's a pig getting up to speed and I'm thankful VA is "relatively" flat. I'll continue to own Rangers myself, but I had a bad experience with Ford's warranty policy at two locations.
Move on to next post now, or continue for partial thread hijack (sorry).
I had a problem with the inertia switch on my current Ranger. Switch cuts off electronic fuel pump at impact or roll-over. I'd be idling at a light or stop sign and the engine would die. The truck would not restart. Reach under the dash on the passenger side, press the inertia switch reset button and off I'd go for a couple of weeks before repeating this cycle.
I drive 163 mile to and from work every week and don't need an inertia switch tripping at 80 MPH on the highway.
Two Ford dealerships would not replace the switch on a vehicle that was less than 4-months old and under warranty as they could not reproduce the problem and would not take my word for it. Understandable to some extent. So, I waited for the problem to occur during my days off, had Geico pay for a hook to the dealership, so the mechanic could reset the switch himself. They still would not replace it (Battlefield Ford in Manassas and Freedom Ford in Hampton, VA). Bought and replaced the part myself (think it was $17) and never had a problem since. I did notice the new part came with a shield that covers the switch, where the old part did not have one.
So ..... I'm not entirely sold on Ford's warranty process.

Tom
