Springtime in the Atlanta metro has brought about a bumper crop of interesting stuff around which one much swerve. Not sure if folks are moving or if yard sales are the culprit, but last week I found myself in the left lane, riding among scattered socks and ladies panties only to see the inverted dresser drawer emerge from beneath the car in front of me.

I had to dodge the parts of a smallish TV or large CRT monitor on the way to work this morning.

None of this is too surprising in a city where there always seems to be at least one ladder and one mattress lost (and found) on our perimeter interstate 285 each day, and small car parts are a normal part of most intersections.

So other than the normal dead stuff, anyone else swerving to avoid anything interesting lately?

Iused to think that dodging large straps of retread was bad until I was behind a truck that started to shed retread!

Spring Is pothole season in New England, the winter freaze loosens the asphalt then the spring rains wash it out. So
much of the back roads have craters and hunks of loose blacktop, Plus the landscapers and what have you contractors are out,They tend to park their trucks in the middle of the street to unload various equipment. And of course there are still some sandy spots on less traveled roads.

I had an awesome 400mile ride yesterday without a single incident until I was a block away from home and locked em up when the neighbors cat decided to play kamikaze squirrel in front of me. Another reason to hate cats.

I remember a similar cat many years ago while riding at night (back when I was really not even supposed to be riding in the day time). I remember hearing that cat's claws on the pavement as we JUST missed it.

Of course I also later learned that cats do NOT like riding on a snowmobile, even inside your jacket.

There is an intersection of two country roads out here that has been littered with a couple hundred shoes. Shoes, boots, sandals, slippers.... doesn't matter, whenever somebody cleans them up, more just reappear.... It's like some local joke that I'm not in on.....

I wonder if they have anything in my size

Could you explain why you hit the brakes instead of the gas?

Nothing as interesting to dodge as shoes and shirts. Just the local quarry at the edge of town, with the giant dump trucks full of sand and gravel, and no "state mandated" tarp coverings. Think of sandblasting for the body.

No discarded clothing around here either, just potholes, tree branches, and the occasional suv/minivan cellphone soccermom or cellphone teenager. Why is it when they pull out in front of you they smile and wave???

And I don't brake for cats or anything smaller than a raccoon....

Eeh! Gimme a break! You guys got it easy!!!

Just yesterday I rode through South Central L.A. on the Harbor Freeway and I had to dodge one 9mm round AND what sounded like TWO BURSTS from an AK-47!!!

(man..the inconsequential stuff some people around here complain about!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Road Gators. The live (still moving) ones are the most dangerous.
