I'm still getting used to the fact that Triumphs draw crowds everywhere you go....but I can't say that it will ever get old! Almost everytime I stop to gas up someone comes running up and starts ooing and aahing over the bike. Tonight some guy came running over, I couldn't help but notice how many times he circled my bike and just kept saying "man that's a nice looking bike!"  Why would anyone ever want to drive something else?

Uhhu and did he have on his special white hat and Hi Vis vest.......... driving a Large Volvo surely the flashing blue lights were a bit of a give away

I really doesn't get old. I love it, my HD riding pal isn't as enthusiastic about it though. He still tells me to park my bike as far away from his as possible! 
I would be unstoppable if not for law enforcement and physics.

I never got why everyone gets so excited whenever someone compliments your bike. I hated it with my America and still hate it with my Thruxton. It's why I took the tank badges off and tell people it's a Honda or Yamaha. I don't care what bikes you had back in 1968 and I'd rather be kicked in the throat then hear about it...EVER.
What's everybody's fascination with the gushing? Vainly trying to "prove" something to Harley riders, or just attention whores?

Mark, get another cup of coffee, it will be OK I notice each month they gush over them a little less. Now that people have seen them the novelty is wearing off. It still happens but not as much. At least not here in Texas with a dealership every 100 miles or so.

I just like talking to the people sometimes, others I just brush em off, depends on my mood. Been riding Triumph for a very long time and it happened with my old bikes too, maybe more so.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains.

One thing's for sure Mark you'll never have to worry about being surrounded by folks going "nice Honda, mate"

That happened to me yesterday while ridding around Lawrenceburg , Indiana. Been happening to me for 3 1/2 years now. So this won't be the last time!

I never get tired of people talking to me about my Triumph or about any bikes they may have had in the past.
Truth be known, i'm a bit of an anorak when it comes to motorbikes and i will talk to anyone who will listen for hours about these two wheeled contraptions.

Well Ed, I do get compliments on the Honda, but usually from girls in their early and mid 20s. Don't know about you, but I like it this way much better.

That's nothing. I had a guy in Nashville pull alongside me in bumper-to-bumper rush-hour traffic and start taking pics of me and the bike with his cellphone. Flattered yes, but keep yer freaking eyes on the road thanks!

Funny you should mention this, Ed. Actually there's this one older gent of about 70 years young who I occassionally run into at this one particular Starbucks in Hermosa Beach, and who once mentioned to me that he has a couple of old Meriden Triumphs sittin' in his garage.
And because the new Triumphs have DOHC motors and not pushrods, he always kiddingly asks me "how my "Honda" is runnin' today?"!!!
(and I always just tell him..."GREAT!!!")

The one thing I've gotten on a handful of occasions is someone pullin next to me in traffic or in a parking lot and say, "that's a nice lookin bike.. who makes it?" to which I either just point at the badge or politely say "Triumph" & the response.... "Yeah I see the name but Who MAKES it?"  Though the coolest compliment I got was one day I was out riding w/ my gal on the back, just toolin 'round town.... we get stopped at a light & we both look over to the right. In the car is a very old, many years young couple (prolly pushin 80's)... I see the man, who was driving, nudge his wife & point out the window at us... all 4 of make eye contact & the man starts givin me the thumbs up/fist type shake in the air w/ HUGE grin on his face.... sorta sayin... "F@#% YEAH!!!"

Well, I kind of understand where he's comin' from, and that's why I always go along with his joke, but you're right of course, John. And Kurt (the older gent in question here) always asks that question with just the right amount of lilt in his voice that I can't help but always laugh at it.
And I've always gotten the impression that he understands that progress isn't necessarilly "a bad thing".
(and of course he REALLY likes my old 1970 Streettracker)

You know what is kind of sad in a way is that if only Triumph would have retooled and updated their design back in the early 1970s(I know, I know folks...they had no money, for myriad reasons) to something like what we presently ride, what with more modern OHCs and maybe even balance shafts(which of course where not that advanced a design even back then, really) then maybe, just maybe people today wouldn't be asking us that same ol' question whenever we park our bikes somewhere..."When did they start making Triumphs again?"

I wish they did still have solid tappets and push rods, snap to adjust pop the insp. cap ,slide a feeler gauge in there, slack the jam nut ,turn the screw to the right setting,tighten the jam nut, put the insp. cap back on. Done in about 15 min. for all the valves.

That's true alright, Ian. Adjusting the valves on the old Twins is a snap.
However, the less recipricating weight in an engine, the better. And, while the long stroke old Twins certainly sound better and maybe supply more torque than the modern engines, I think overall, the smoother and higher revving Hinckley Twins are preferable and will keep running a heck of a lot longer that the older TTTrriiiiummmmmphhhhs(that's me in "vibration mode" there, BTW) ever would before the neccessary rebuild comes around, ya know.

The best one for me so far was a very good looking young woman on a convertible Mercedes matching my speed next to me and then she started waving and winking and blowing kisses LOL! I looked at her like she was nuts... I just waved back. I know if I had an open face helmet instead of my full face it would have been a different story.

Back in Los Angeles, I used to ride my old '68 Bonneville as a daily commuter; I was taking some side roads that I liked to open up on when another motorcycle pulled up behind me. Being a bit of a show off, I poured on the speed, only to be matched with accompanying lights and siren. Unfortunately, my mirrors shook so much, I could tell it was a bike; I just didn't notice it was a motorcycle cop! Luckily, I got off with a warning as I admitted I was just showing off for another biker. He laughed, he scolded, he let me go.
The rear view is much clearer with my TBA!!!

My new 07 America is my first bike in over 20 years. I'm 47, the kids are grown and I decided to get my first bike since my early married days. My folks came over the other day and I thought my father, who is in his 70's, would give me grief for buying the bike. Hey what can I say, I still care what the old man thinks. Instead of giving me grief, he saw the bike and said man when I was a kid in the 50's I always wanted one of those Triumphs, start it up lets hear it. There's just something about them.

Being one of "those" people with both, I always get more comments about my America than I do my Harley. Parking the Harley next to another bike get's a look; parking the Triumph next to another bike gets a conversation.
Guess which one I ride more often!

I guy I just rumbled past gets out of his car at a light! He comes running up and in heavily accented English, says, "How much is bike? What year?" I could see the wheels in his brain spinning when I said $5000 for a 2003.

I carry a stack of my dealer's business cards with me.. Everytime I get into an "ooh ahh" conversation, I hand one out.
Beyond the old timers striking up a memory lane conversation, I've been approached by a few women, both young and old... some of the comments are clueless and funny but the main attraction is the bike - it sure as ****** ain't me.
I get a lot of intersection comments like the one this past Sunday from a guy in a pickup truck with HD stickers all over the back window - "What year?" - 03 - "Nice, real nice. I'm glad they're making them again" - me too....
I even had a cop pull me over into a shopping center parking lot once. He just wanted to check the bike out. He loved it. I reached slooowly into my jacket and gave him a card..
