V-Strom is a nice bike. I was looking at the 650cc though. Kind of like a low cost fun bike.

Yeah, a buddy of mine is looking at the v-strom 650 as his first "real" bike (he's currently learning on my old Honda VLX 600). He wants somethign more upright and with some off-road capability -- I tried to sell him on the scrambler, but considering the Scrambler is around $2k more than the V-strom, I suspect he's going to go with the 'Zuk.
Can't say I blame him -- my bike before my SM was an SV650, which has essentially the same engine as the V-strom. They're great bikes, they're inexpensive... somewhat lacking in chutzpah, but hey, it's a good place to start.
I'll bring him into the fold eventually. He'll see the error of his ways.

Okay I finally came up with a smart alec answer... jeez must be getting old.
I'd want a Harley so when I get the old "I've got a Road King.. Heritage Softtail.. blah blah.." I could say something like "yeah I've got one of those too but I'd rather ride someting with class..."
Seriously though if I could have two bikes, the other would probably be a Speedmaster.

A fellow at work (also in DC coincidentally) just gave up his 1150GS that he got new and put 40k miles on for a 650 VStrom. He said the Beemers are bullet reliable if you do the scheduled maintenance (true of any machine) but the price of routine maintenance on beemers was a killer. He's a functionalist and went strictly for the useability. His VStrom has this huge 45l givi topcase that looks totally out of place, but it works. He says the 650 is just tons more fun than the beemer. I think I'd rather go for the DL1000 since most of my riding is highway.
Man, there are a lot of great machines out there anymore!

I'm looking for a distance hauler and the Griso doesn't look like it'd fit the bill. The riding position is a little to sporty for my taste. A big change for Guzzi though.

For a second bike I'd like to get hold of 50's single,be it AJS,Ariel,BSA or WHY,the reason being I wrecked so many of them in my teenage years. I'd like to give it the respect I was sadly lacking as a 15 year old and give it lots of TLC in its old age.

Hi Stewe I had a BSA 441 Shooting Star as the first bike after I passed my test at 17. Like you, i didn't have a lot of mechanical sympathy at that age. Chain kept falling off, no one told me you had to adjust it!  Got feed up of it and sold it to a bloke in the pub for £15 & a couple of beers! As they say If I knew then what I know now.

A Bloor Bonneville. You know, a 2001 and up. 2001s are sweet cause they had chrome engine covers and were a t-100 sans tach before the term was coined. Post 2000 Bonnevilles v 270 trumps are more nimble, I have all the tools, and I know how to service/tweak them! I'll get me one of them thare bikes fo two long.
