Yeah, a buddy of mine is looking at the v-strom 650 as his first "real" bike (he's currently learning on my old Honda VLX 600). He wants somethign more upright and with some off-road capability -- I tried to sell him on the scrambler, but considering the Scrambler is around $2k more than the V-strom, I suspect he's going to go with the 'Zuk.
Can't say I blame him -- my bike before my SM was an SV650, which has essentially the same engine as the V-strom. They're great bikes, they're inexpensive... somewhat lacking in chutzpah, but hey, it's a good place to start.
I'll bring him into the fold eventually. He'll see the error of his ways.
