"Beatniks" came up in a recent misc tech thread re: chain cleaning. Only on this board, huh?
This reminded me of a recent read. I'd always wanted to read "On the Road", but only used 1st editions were available at around $150/copy. That was until the 50th anniversary last year when it was reissued in paperback. I bought a used one off Amazon for $6. Glad I waited. To me, it was worth $6 tops.

I referenced Maynard G. Krebs this afternoon, not that I'm old enough to remember which team Maynard G. Krebs played for

There's an annual New Year's Day bowl bash and pot luck here. One time when BYU was in a game and scored, someone said "**** Joseph Smith". Carl, the local Husker fan said "What number's he?"

Kinda agree with you on this Bill. Wanted to read the book for years and found a paperback last summer. About half way into it I pretty much had to force myself to pick it up. Although I understand the spirit and philosophy the book didn't seem to have a great deal of direction.

Hmmmm...surprising, considering how wholesome, clean-living and clear-headed Mr.Kerouac kept himself at all times, huh Doug?!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Nope, not overly surprising Dwight. Wasn't too much different in my yute (during the '70's), but I wasn't trying to write a novel. If I could only remember half of what happened it might be an interesting read. Probably closer to Hunter S. though.
