Do you really think thats it? Or maybe its because they are interested in the opinions of riders that are just as "branded" as themselves? If one were to look at the BMW or Goldwing owners, I believe they are even more branded than the Harley owners. But it seems on this blog that the opinions of the Harley owner is all important. Just wondering if the Harley marketing has gotten to all of us?

Marketing plays a part, but only in that they are similar bikes marketed to similar demographics. Plus, Harley owners are in the vast majority of the cruiser segment. HD owns the cruiser market, and the rest of the brands are a bunch of Davids taking on Goliath. As the underdog, there's a natural tendency to demonize whomever is on top.

I think you're both right, and so is Nick(Lowery) here when he said this...

I think it comes down to our bike being very similar to HD's in looks. After all, it was designed to capture the American market and what better oppertunity to try and grab a slice of that market.

So that's, imo, the reason HD's crop up more than other makes in threads. Similar bikes.

But I have to disagree with Ian when he said this...

I think because it's harder to find a guy on a Triumph and if they are like me that's who they tend to see. I don't ride with or go to many places where there are guys on rice. Only 1 person I ride with on a Gold Wing. I personally don't care what anyone thinks but do enjoy talking bikes and most of the time it's with a guy on a Hardley.

You see, I've found over the years that the folks who ride britbikes(and I don't mean to stroke our collective egos here, BTW) and ESPECIALLY older britbikes, tend to know much more about the WIDE WORLD of motorcycling and tend to be cogniscent, well versed, and APPRECIATIVE of ALL the varied and interesting brands of machines out there than just about any other "group" of riders.

In other words, I'd much rather sit and talk bikes with the members of the Norton Owners Club of SoCal, who as a whole can discuss and seem to appreciate the latest and greatest from Japan Inc, Italy, Germany, and YES even Milwaukee, than I generally would with most members of the local HOG chapter, who often seem to know the lastest happenings in that last location I mentioned above(Milwaukee) and often little else.

(yep...I've found a heck of a lot more "Peter Egan types" associated with the Norton Owners Club than with any other group over the years, alright!)
