Okay, I've only been back into biking about 5 years and can usually pickup a lot from the context of the discussions and figure out what different terms mean. So just hit me with an ugly stick and call me stupid, but I just gotta know! What do you mean by a 1 percenter ? Is there anything else that I need to know?
Its more fun to be ridin'! I'm still ridin

Lots of discussions surround this term. So heres my take on it if I am wrong no doubt one of the guys will give there opinion or a better take on the subject. 99% of bikers are law abiding 1% choose to live by their laws. Or 99% of bikers wish to be like the 1% who live the life. Most if not all 1%ers belong to "outlaw" mototcycle clubs. Outsiders are tolerated to a certain degree. If they are your friend keep them that way. They owe no loyalty to any body outside the club. Close friends can even be pushed aside or worse for fellow club members. Be careful around them what we may take as fun or banter can easily be taken as an insult by them. They will never talk about club business with outsiders. If you do get into a situation with them know that they will rat pack you you will not fight one of them you will fight all of them. Scotland is one of the few countries in the world ha does not have a Hells angels, Bandidos, Satans slaves chapter we do have the Blue Angels which are the longest established MC club in europe. The history section on the link below is quite interesting if you are interested in bikers clubs. http://www.blueangelsscotland.com/base.html

I've always heard it explained in a nutshell that "1%ers are the ones who give the other 99% a bad name."

That term was coined by the MMA to describe bikers they don't approve of. Also, they coined the term "outlaw biker" to describe those who take part in non-MMA sanctioned races and events.

Ah HA! I KNEW there had to be a reason I've never felt much interest in joinin' up with any of these particular "fine motorcycle clubs"!!!
(well HECK...for THAT matter, a lot of the times I feel half of YOU DUNDERHEADS AROUND HERE don't "get me" 99% of the friggin' time, for chrissake!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Was at school with a couple of lads who joined the Slaves. Used to drink quite regularly at the pub they used to meet. We never had any hassle, they knew we were OK. We knew what they were about and left them to it... best way.

There was a bar in Venice, CA that had a high percentage of 1%s . . . all was well and good until one day as I was riding by on my old '68 Bonnie, there were two LAPD transport buses out front. They were loading all the patrons up for what I imagine was not a trip to Disneyland. One or two tried to wave me over . . . uhhhhhh . . . . no. Rumor has it that it was a munitions raid. Bar closed down shortly after that.

Wait a minute Cynthia. I remember reading about that incident, and I think I remember reading that one of the 1%ers there that day was, believe it or not, actually smart enough to quickly think of a way out of getting arrested!(BTW...would that then made him a .1%er?...sorry...what say we work the math out on this later)
Yep! According that article I read he quickly grabbed the chainsaws of that dude who juggles 'em there at Venice Beach, and started makin' like HE was street performer, and the cops actually bought it!!!
(bad outcome though...he's known to his fellow 1%ers as "Lefty" to this very day...so maybe he wasn't so smart afterall, huh?!)

What's worse, I never got my chainsaws back.
