Gentlemen,
The regular length heavy duty Progressive 412 series rear shocks are probably just what I need, but I saw some Ikons that appeared to have a lot more chrome. They were beautiful, but they're about $130 more. Any opinions out there on how these shocks rate against one another. Thanks

Hagon also makes a fully shrouded chrome shock that isn't too bad cost wise. Bella Corse used to sell them haven't looked lately.Hagon are made to order too as far as spring stiffness and dampening and length.

I got a set of the Ikons. I like the way my bike handles now. If I had it to do over again, I would get the 1" lowered shocks.
Its more fun to be ridin'! I'm still ridin

I find the look of the YSS shocks, at BellaCorse website interesting and unique, but the price tag (~$850/pair)...yikes !!! weblink to YSS shocksOut of curiosity, anyone have any real world experience with them?

Those are nice Eddy. Didn't see them on your wedsite. The only thing I didn't like about the 412's is all the black at the mounts and under the springs. The Ikons are pricier but they sure are pretty. I'm guessing function is comparable.

Russell, I think YOU'RE the guy who changed out the springs on his 440s. That cost me, man! I had to follow your lead. Glad I did, though. Recommended for solo use.

What my supplier lists them for $389 for Flames and $359 for the Cuts, I checked J&P and they have two prices $342 for cuts and $366 for flames unless you sign up for their Credit Card then they are lower.
But they do not carry for the Triumph America model and neither does Dennis Kirk or Parts Un-limited so I can't even compare apples to apples.
My price will be $368 for the flames and $347 for the cuts both including shipping US. And more important, my supplier does get them from Progressive. Sometimes there may be a lag from Progressive, but if they're assembled, they get them going in one week if they are not on the shelf.
Now that, so they say,. is a good thing...for us.

I have spoken with the guys at J&P several times and they don't think there is enough of a market to carry Triumphs stuff. I even asked them about some things that I knew they had that fit our bikes and they told me they only list motorcycles that their supplier tells them the part fits even if it fits others.

Its odd that J&P would be so short sighted, with two Triumph dealers close by ( and the fact that one of the guys working for J&P used to work for one of them and his family owned the one he worked for ).

J&P has always been very helpful when I was trying to make something fit like when I built my oil pressure gauge. They also took the time for a tech to measure up all the distances and dia. on a set of $20 levers I have been thinking about trying out and getting back to me with the measurments. Their customer service has always been above average too. They replaced a chrome elbow once for me that I forgot to order after over a year and did it free of charge even after I told them I would pay for it since it had been so long. Can't beat that I will buy from them with confidence any time.

Wow. Thats a good price.
I already ordered the 412's from Eddy, so I will stick with them, but, wow, that would have been quite a deal.
I hope I notice a significant improvement with the 412s.

You will. Take some time to try the different pre-load settings so you can get them dialed in just right, it took me longer than I thought to get them just right.

HeneryHawk, those shocks ARE better then stock so you WILL see a difference like oldroadie said.
AND you'll probably get them MUCH faster then I get mine. Fast eddie (so I'm told) can NOT be beat for excelent shipping times.

told ya! LOL
I installed mine over the weekend. You can do it one at a time AND on the side stand but it's easier to use a lift if you are by yourself.
I had mine on the side stand, jacked up the preload on the L side and removed the R side. The bike will drop slightly on the R side. I then lifted up on the luggage rack and EASILY popped on the R side shock.
I then jacked up the preload on the newly installed R shock and removed the L side stock shock. THAT side dropped a little bit more because the weight of the bike is on the side stand. I wasn't able to lift up on the luggage rack and pop the L side shock by myself. I needed a second set of hands but believe me, it was just for safety reasons. I didn't want to lift the bike off the side stand! LOL
So a lift if you are by yourself and if you have a second set of hands (even your wife or one of the kids) you can do the job on the side stand.
(hope this helps)

It looked that the stock bushings would be a pain the tail to remove.....the new shocks will come with a few different sized bushings.
You'll find that the largest diam ones will need to be used. The shocks also come with new washers but you can use the stock ones.
Follow my directions above and you'll have no problems.
I actually like the 440's set one half turn from the lowest setting. I'm only 160lbs. It's slightly soft when you hit the bumps but they are still firm in the twisties!

I bought a set of 412's from Eddie, but when bought them we ordered the shorter ones drops the bike 1". They were great when my son Brett weighed 60 lbs. but now we are scraping when he rides with me. I have the long SS cannons and now have them set to the max so Brett can ride with me.
They have 2,500 miles on them would sell them for half of what they list for and invest in another set that are 12.5.
I really like them I did the front springs at the same time and it totally chaged the way the bike rides and handles.
So if you want to drop the bike an inch and you ride solo not a bad deal.

The 812's will be produced in a 12.5 version. They didn't give a time frame but it is in the works.
I got to ride on a set of 412's (812's are fancy 412's) and I have to tell you, my next personal purchase is a set for my Blue! The ride is unmistakably better, you can even feel the difference in how it handles while riding straight down the road, feels more solid, absolutely great.

Got my 412:s installed today and i must say that i am impressed of the handling over my old stock shocks. Been out riding most of the day today and the bike feels like a whole new ride. Felt the difference right away, firmer and smoother at the same time, theese shocks are the best spent money on my bike so far. Johann

Word of caution Boyz, Looking at the post refering to MAW black shocks? The part number from MAW's site does not match for the America part number with Progressive so I don't know which Triumph that that particualr black model fits.
Now, for the (hopeful) good news, I see that I may have an all black shock available for the 440...I'll call on that tomorrow, but it seems to me that they were going to make those "go away" as they did with the polished version of the 440. I'll post more when I have up to date non Memrial day information!
