I'm antisocial and don't tolerate people very well. Nickname is ICE - I prefer cold weather / it can been seen in my veins at times (have heard both).
Wife, kids and dog like me though.

I am ..related to this guy.....distantly but definitely.
Burke, styled MacWilliam, and Ne-gan or Na-gCeann (i.e. "of the Heads," "having made a mount of the heads of men slain in battle which he covered up with earth"), was the son of Richard Mor Burke the 9th Clanricarde, by a daughter of Madden of Portumna, and grandson of Ulick de Burgh, lord of Clanricarde (1467-1487), the collateral heir male of the earls of Ulster.
On the death of the last earl in 1333, his only child Elizabeth had married Lionel of Antwerp, 1st Duke of Clarence, and the earldom became merged in the crown, in consequence of which the de Burghs abjured English laws and sovereignty, and chose for their chiefs the sons of Sir William, the "Red" earl of Ulster's brother, the elder William taking the title of MacWilliam Eighter (Uachtar, i.e. Upper), and becoming the ancestor of the earls of Clanricarde, and his brother Sir Edmond that of MacWilliam Oughter (Ochtar, i.e. Lower), and founding the family of the earls of Mayo.
In 1361 the duke of Clarence was sent over as lord lieutenant to Ireland to enforce his claims as husband of the heir general, but failed, and the chiefs of the de Burghs maintained their independence of English sovereignty for several generations. Ulick de Burgh succeeded to the headship of his clan, exercised a quasi-royal authority and held vast estates in county Galway, in Connaught, including Loughry, Dunkellin, Kiltartan (Hilltaraght) and Athenry, as well as Clare and Leitrim. In March 1541, however, he wrote to Henry VIII, lamenting the degeneracy of his family, "which have been brought to Irish and disobedient rule by reason of marriage and nurseing with those Irish, sometime rebels, near adjoining to me," and placing himself and his estates in the king's hands. The same year he was present at Dublin, when the act was passed making Henry VIII king of Ireland.
In 1543, in company with other Irish chiefs, he visited the king at Greenwich, made full submission, undertook to introduce English manners and abandon Irish names, received a regrant of the greater part of his estates with the addition of other lands, was confirmed in the captainship and rule of Clanricarde, and was created on the 1 July 1543 earl of Clanricarde and baron of Dunkellin in the peerage of Ireland, with unusual ceremony. "The making of McWilliam earl of Clanricarde made all the country during his time quiet and obedient," states Lord Chancellor Cusake in his review of the state of Ireland in 1553. At the ceremony Ulick's erstwhile allies/enemies, O'Brien of Thomond and Gilla Dubh O'Shaughnessy, were created 1st Earl of Thomond and Sir Diarmait O'Shaughnessy of Kinela.
He did not live long, however, to enjoy his new English dignities, but died shortly after returning to Ireland about March 1544. He is called by the annalist of Loch Cé "a haughty and proud lord," who reduced many under his yoke, and by the Four Masters "the most illustrious of the English in Connaught." Burke died shortly after his return to Ireland.

When I was in Cumbria at a bike rally a few years back I was interested to note that there were EMTs on motorcycles as "first responders."

B717doc...."B" for Boeing....717 is an airliner that seats 117 passengers, formerly known as the "MD95" before Boeing bought out McDonnell Douglas..My company, "Airtran" here in Atlanta, have about 150 of these, and about 54 brand new Boeing 737-700's. I know each one of them personally, and they are ALL my patients...I am the senior maintenance supervisor for the airline...

Ever since I was a little kid, (about second grade)I used to put a five pointed "star" in between my first and last name. I just thought it was cool, for a little kid thinking. Later, I sign a lot of unimportant paperwork with a "R" and "N" as my first and last intial of my name, with the star in between. When you say that abbreviation fast, it sounds like "Arstaren". Simple word play.

Many years ago, I played golf regularly with a group of guys, and we would bet to see who was closest to the pin on the par 3's. We typically played early in the morning and the bet was always for a big cinnamon roll from the clubhouse. Although I think they were called "Bear Claws", one of the guys always joyfully called it a "BIG TEXAS".
These days, I participate in an annual fantasy football league with a different group of guys. With fond memories of the past, I always name my team: Big Texases. An added bonus... I get a kick out of listening to some of my buddies try to say it.
Anyway, I continue to associate the name "Big Texas" with good times - thus the reason for using it as a username.

Quite a few services use motorcycles in the UK as fast response vehicles.
They tend to go for Honda ST1300's and are quite successful at getting to places quicker than cars especially in urban areas.
The guys and girls are trained to the same standards as the police and do the same course I believe.
Where I work we don't use motorcycles as there is no real need for them to be honest but it would be interesting to have a go at it I guess.

Mine goes back a long way, High school days, had an accedent
that required me to wear a patch over one eye for several months. Kids being kids and my real first name being Jack.
Started calling me "one eye" or "cyclops" it evoled into
"One Eyed Jack" after the playing card. Some people who know me from years past will still at times greet me with "Hey one eye".

When I retired from the Coast Guard and eventually moved to NW Arkansas, I joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary, volunteer group providing operational, logistic and administrative support to the CG. When I was elected Flotilla Commander (FC) I mentioned that it would be good to have minions again. After they looked up minion in the dictionary (this is Arkansas after all  )they got vindictive. Normally at the Change of Watch the incoming FC is sworn in and that's it. They however held a full coronation ceremony complete with crown and throne ( porcelain of course) and I was crowned "His Royal Hinda** Flotilla Commander Tush". Nasty bunch, that group.

 well you could say that, but more like the lower lid was missing, and some damage to the ball itself and

Got mine in the Navy, where everyone with the surname Moore is called Pony Moor after Dartmoor. Got used to it as it was the only name I was called for my entire 7 years service. It stuck and I like it.

Smokeinhiseyes. Native American thing. I've practiced the Lakota Souix traditions for about the last 13-14 years. Just a part of my life. Smoke In His Eyes implies that I don't always see things clearly. So caught up in what I'm up to that I sometimes that I can miss what really needs to be seen. Supose we're all a bit like that.

fairly obvious, i think anyways.
