When I was in Cumbria at a bike rally a few years back I was interested to note that there were EMTs on motorcycles as "first responders."
Quite a few services use motorcycles in the UK as fast response vehicles.
They tend to go for Honda ST1300's and are quite successful at getting to places quicker than cars especially in urban areas.
The guys and girls are trained to the same standards as the police and do the same course I believe.
Where I work we don't use motorcycles as there is no real need for them to be honest but it would be interesting to have a go at it I guess. 
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"
