I'm wanting to buy a wind screen. I was wondering what size windscreen I should purchase? I'm six feet tall. Do I want to be looking over or through the windscreen? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks jvanbeek

I don't have a wndscreen. I was originally planning on getting one, but enjoyed riding "naked". I did just get a Dart flyscreen to put on my bike, before my accident. I am hoping the flyscreen, when finally mounted, will remove some of the air pressure off my chest. Anyway, the advice I got from my younger brother, who's been riding for years, is to be sure the windscreen is low enough to allow some air flow around your helmet or you will have problems. I don't think you want to be looking through the windscreen anyway. The windscreen I was considering were the Windvest brand: weblink here Pricey but others here have given them great feedback. I'm sure others, with far more experience, will chime in as well. Best do some research.

Look into Fast Eddies' Memphis Shades stuff - excellent quality and the service is unprecedented . Ideally , you should look just OVER the thing . The top edge of the shield creates a line of sorts which can obscure objects in the road . I know this by experience . Ouch .

I'm six feet tall as well , and I got the Alley Cat from Eddie . Perfect . 16" is too short . Go with the 18" , 20" just looks too obtrusive IMHO .

I went this route. Ordered just the Triumph Roadster screen hardware from Triumph and a Clearview Shield that fits that assembly. I'm 5'11'' and choose the 18.5" shield which I figure I'll be looking over from the research I did. Clearview products get very high ratings on other forums I browse. I phoned them and they were very helpful with my decision. The total cost was less than buying the stock Triumph Roadster Screen. The brackets are here, still waiting on the screen as this is a busy time for Clearview. http://www.clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=59

+1
I will just add this...I have become so used to ridig with the shield that it actually never comes off. I did add the lowers to reduce the amount of air that flows up from under the tank. I think a "fats" style shieled may have prevented that but I dont know for sure. Anyway...good luck with your choice!

I'm 6'3" and suffered terrible buffeting from the Roadster Screen that my TBA was originally fitted with. Speeds over 55 mph would make 1000 Ninjas appear from nowhere and subsequently batter the feck out of my head to the point that i actually considered getting rid of the bike! I loved the Roadster screen 'look' but simply couldn't rideout with my buddies with it.. I did various research and opted for a Vario Shield which i am more than happy with as i've tightened the fittings just so that it's more than secure but still gives me the option to alter the angle in mid flight according to speed... the faster i go the lower the angle... NO Buffeting even at 95mph...and it can be removed within seconds (2 x 5mm allen screws).. Both the height and the angle are fully adjustable... For me (and purely my own opinion) deffo worth it! Saves on the self defence classes It's the MRA VARIO SCREEN FOR NAKED BIKES Click here..

IAN, is there any chance of you giving us some pics as this screen intrigues me a bit, particular how it's adjustable and is fairly quickly detachable?

I have the fats and when adding the lowers could not believe the difference with the lowers. plus it is nice to know,"too late now" that you can order the triumph hardware to add the clear view. that would of been my choice. mike

As previously posted...more than happy with this screen... At first glance you may presume that the 2 handlebar mounts wouldn't suffice (as did i)....you'd be wrong - very sturdy.
I'm happy to try to answer specifics.......

I have the Memphis Shades Fats, 17" screen and am 5' 11". It could maybe be 1/2" shorter, so that would be perfect for your size. Previously had the Triumph Roadster, which was OK but the Fats is light years better for me. I love the convenient removal option and enjoy the warmer weather with no screen. I don't enjoy riding without one when temps dip below 80 degrees. Definitely go with Fast Eddy, he'll make sure you have no fitment problems. I bought mine just as he was getting into the Memphis line and I made one goof on the hardware from CruiserCustomizing. I don't recall the year bike you have but there was no current hardware application for the smaller '08 shrouds. Eddy was working on a fix, not sure if he was successful. I can't restate while I enjoyed 20,000 miles of riding behind the Roadster screen, the Memphis Shades Fats is a far better product.

I can't stand looking thru the screen. With the 17" Fats I put on, I look just over the screen except for long, up-hill sections. I don't have any buffeting with the 17" size, so will leave well enough alone. The Triumph Roadster screen probably amounts to about a 16" screen but I had buffeting (lived with it). A windscreen is a ton of compromises, but I'm happier now.

Hi Ian, thanks for taking the time to post pics, they are very interesting and provide yet another interesting variation to the normal screens out there. At the moment I have a Clearview 17" tinted model which I am happy with but personally I now wish it was an inch or 2 higher. My reason for this is I am 6' 1" tall and when I measured myself using the clearview measurement guide I had also just installed hagon shocks but with incorrectly rated springs for my weight. Hence when I sat on my bike I was unaware the sag was lowering me further than it should and as such, my screen appeared higher. Well I now have the correctly weighted springs and with it, a screen I would prefer was like I said, an inch or two higher. So, my options are to either keep the original which I might add is fine and doesn't buffet me but I just feel one a little higher would be perfect for ME , or I have considered adding a second tier (similar to yours) using a portion of the old summer screen I have lying around. Anyway, can I ask you how high the screen is above the top of the headlight when fully extended? Once I know that I can consider my options from that point. Thanks again.

The extended length of the screen is 19.5" .....if you're looking to have the top of the screen 19.5" above the headlight then the screen would need to be pretty much vertical (not good for buffeting)... it will all depend on the angle that you set to determine the physical height of the screen above the headlight....
Try cutting out a 19.5" template from card and simulate how high it would be from the top of your headlight? Might give you a better idea?

Phil I have an 05 speedmaster. Ian, thanks for your time. What I've decided to do is place a second tier behind the original and if I can, one that can be adjusted up or down similar to yours. That's the idea anyway.

According to most wind screen manufacturers, you should just be looking over the shield (unless you WANT to look through a giant one). The best way to measure for optimum is to sit on the bike and lay a yardstick over the windshield. Have a friend stand back to "eye level" the yardstick. It should hit you between your mouth and nose.
Staffo, I'm 6' and have the same Clearview Summer Screen replacement which is just tall enough for me (that's my bike in the pic you posted). They now make a 18" which should be perfect for you. You probably wouldn't have any trouble selling your Clearview to someone that has the Triumph mounts. It is one of the very best screens made for our bikes.

Bob or Stacka...I need some help here. I ordered a Clearview screen to go with Triumph Roadster brackets which my dealer ordered for me and I now have in my possession. Surprise!!! You can't order the chrome strap pieces that come on the Roadster screen.....just the supports and various fittings. Do you think the Clearvue screen would be stable enough without those 3 pieces of chrome on the shield? If anyone is reading this that has a discarded Roadster screen and wants to part out the chrome pieces, please get in touch with me. Also saw the National Cycle Switch blade shield which I like the look of....no listing for Triumph. Anyone adapt this model to a TBA? Thanks. You're still going to have the pre-drilled holes in the clearview screen for the chrome straps. I think it would be strong enough, and maybe you could fabricate your own straps from polished stainless or aluminum.

Hi Don. I went the same way, Roadster brackets with a Clearview screen. The chrome strips are not sold separately, apparently they come with the Roadster screen. So I got some licence plate bolts from Canadian Tire; they're black plastic with crome bottons for the top. The plastic bolts go in first, and the plastic button pops onto the "bolt" head facing outward on the screen. Looks OK, and the screen is certainly strong enough.
I found that after last year the chrome on the plastic buttons wore, but they only cost a few bucks so are cheap to replace.

Thanks for the info Steve. That's reassuring knowing that you found a solution. Sort of panicked when My dealer told me about the non existent pieces. I talked to Clearview today and they feel with 4 mounting points, their shield will be stable enough. My shield is to be made on Friday, so in a couple weeks I'll get to try it out. By the way...I grew up in Calgary. Don

Good information here but I wouldn't go anyplace else until I went to http://Fasteddysports.com or talked with eddy about my needs.

Hi Don, sorry for the late reply but I've busy doing other stuff. I think you'll be fine mate. The screens are really strong so I believe you won't have any probs and particularly as clearview themselves think you'll be fine makes me even more confident.

I talked with Eddy earlier this week and currently there is no easy fix for the 07/08 Americas. You can either go with a handlebar mounted screen like Memphis Shades makes or get the complete Triumph Roadster screen kit and replace the screen with the one from Clearview. Eddy thinks he may have a fix that would work for other screens, but nothing definite yet.
You cannot buy the complete Triumph Roadster hardware without getting the screen itself. As others have found, you can only order the lower brackets and upper fixing kit which don't include the chrome straps. The only way to get the straps is to buy the screen itself.

I wonder if Clearview would make the screen without the five extra strap mounting holes?
I'll give John at Clearview a call tomorrow to see if that is possible.

No need! I talked to John today about this very scenario as my Clearview screen is to be made on Monday. It will only have the 4 mounting holes drilled in it as I'm not adding the chrome straps. According to at least 3 members here and John, the chrome straps are really not needed for good stability of the Clearview screen with the Triumph mounting hardware. Hope this helps. Don

Can't someone (Eddy?)who lives near their plant in TN contact Memphis Shades and take their bike down to see what fits? I bet they could determine an application in 30 minutes or so just by test fitting existing hardware. I see Memphis Shades now makes a quick-release, no-tools hardward piece. Now that is really cool, wish I'd have waited for this to come out. Anyone want a good deal on their old hardware for a Fats screen? <g>

Thanks Don. Yes, that does help. Please let us know how the screen looks and holds up without the straps.

I do have the Windvest on mine and after wasting money on two other brands, I switched to the Windvest and wished I had done it a whole lot sooner. yes..it's more expensive but the end result is a better more comfortable ride with little buffeting.

I agree, I have a clearview and it's great but then I saw this pic on Eddies site: and just love the look. Also, it's the first time I've seen a pic where the extra lights actually look great, but, there's more, the lowers are sort of hidden which to me is a further bonus. Then there is the quick release facility. I want one Nope, I really like this setup of Eddies, which drives me insane cos eventually I'll be forking out more cash. help

The problems I had included wind buffeting and spider cracks forming where bolts went through the plexi...the thicker Windvest and shape directs wind pretty much right over me...

Hello All:
Does this mean someone has some stock Triumph roadster windscreen chrome stability straps they're not using? I'd like to buy a set since I ended up with a stock windscreen that was missing them.
Let me know!

I just finished installing a Roadster Screen on my 07 TBA. The instructions talk about relocating hardware for the signal lights but no details on how and where it goes. Any input would be appreciated.

That doesn't make any sense (the instructions). Are your signals still on the handlebar, below the grips? If so, leave them there. Quote:

The signal lights are in the usual stock position on the handlebars. The instructions read, "Relocate the front indicators using the extension brackets provided in the kit." Considering the view from the front, the edge of the screen on both sides, partially obstructs the signal lights. I'm wondering if that's the issue. As I said there is no info other than the above instructions.

Has anyone here used the Maier screens? They're inexpensive and somewhat smaller than those being discussed in this thread. My bike doesn't have the light bar, and I like the look of a smaller screen. Don't know much about their quality/performance though.
