Even if "public trans." were expanded that would only be a band aid and a very poor one at that. What some people don't
realize that going to work, store or any other travel only makes up a small portion of energy consumption. People also need to get to their customers, stores need to have their goods shiped, factories and plants need power and raw goods delivered, ect. Like Dog said earlier he needs a truck with enough power to do his job and a "smart" car isn't going to cut it. Plants, factories, hospitals, office buildings need lots of power and windmills & sun panels ain't going to cut it either. Until people get off the green junk, conspiracy junk, and the (magic dust, snake oil) alternative souces being here now or with in five years junk the price of fuel and just about every thing else will continue to go up. For the next fifty to one hundred years fossil fuels will be the only effecient(meaning more bang for your buck)power source to supply the world's economies. For every smart butt with their head firmly implanted in it snarky and ignorent comments just only raises the price of fuel 5 or more cents a barrel.
