A problem which is already startingto hit us in the US is that we have been so used to 'affordable' gas that living miles away from work and commuting by personal vehicle has never been much of a consideration. In fact, what it's done is placed us in a position of poor planning and we are WAY behind much of the world in developing and using public transportation in many of the communities. I'm afraid the days of an affordable commute to suburbia is a thing of the past, and many will now look at moving closer in, but that will also be a problem, because EVERYONE will be looking to do the same thing - and in a depressed housing market to boot. It will take years to lay in the infrastructure needed to make the change away from what we have long taken for granted as our 'right' to drive whenever and wherever we want without any thought as to the cost of doing so.

Rising fuel prices will affect every single aspect of our daily lives, and this is simply the beginning of a long, cold night.
