I have been rooked twice on this site.. When someone puts up a thread with an item "for sale" and has a set price, is that the start of an auction or should it go to the person who first answers back that they want it at that price.
I know the seller can sell it to who ever he wants to but..what the %&*#
Twice I have said i want an item and twice it was confirmed by the seller (yes the item is yours) only the next day was informed that the item was sold to someone else.
Is that the game, sneak in the back door (PMing) and offer more after another member said they wanted the item... (When I see someone else has stated they want the item I back off, I figure first come first serve) Or is it a favorites game, senoirity thing..Whats the deal?
OK rant over

Ideally everyone should deal in an upfront, honorable manner. But some people are just greedy dirtbags and their word means nothing. Sorry, dude.

No I don't feel the need to remove it but I do think it would be better in the lounge where it would get the proper attention.

I feel that if you have told someone that the item is theirs then that is the way it is.

I wouldnt say theres "favorites" here, but theres alot of members on here that are buddies. I'd rather help a buddy out and sell him something I had over an anonymous member on this site. Thats just the way the world works I guess. But breaking your word sucks too. I think if anything the guy shoulda told you "hey Im gonna sell it to my buddy, sorry"

That sucks Dave. For me, a persons word is key. If you were told the product was yours, than I would think you have the right to expect the party to follow through. I'm sorry to hear this hasn't been the case for you.

A while back, I donated a pair of short, slash tors to a
member here. I even paid the shipping, trying to help another.
I think he turned around and sold 'em. Ticked me off!

wow...that sucks...
* when I BUY from a posting I PM first then follow up with a claim on the thread.
* when I SELL I try and state in the listing to PM me.
* close calls (PMs and postings by two different parties very close to each other) are up to the discresion of the seller.
* communication with your buyers is key...letting people know they are first, second third in line is just courtesy.
* closing/deleting the thread a after its sold is in the rules (isnt it?).

BUT to be told its yours then getting it pulled out from under you...not cool!

I guess i'm lucky. I have bought four or five items from people on this site and never had a problem at all. Everyone has been great to deal with.

Most have been great but I do get the odd time where I get a PM telling me about a deal that has gone sour. It hasn't happened often but every time unfortunately I've had to say that there is nothing I or anybody else can do about it. The classifieds here have always been a thing of honour and trust and I would hate to see that disappear.

For every PM I get saying a deal has gone south I've gotten a thousand saying what a great site this is and how happy they are with their transactions.

Bottom line and I can't stress this enough, treat the other party and their ad as you would want to be treated.

i kinda of agree. While i dont know what pms the seller might have received prior to me sending one....I always send a pm then post a pm sent on the thread. At times I have done this and been the first one to post pm sent regarding...whatever. Only to be told sorry I sold it or have promised it to someone. Who knows what the etiquette is on this sort of thing. I am one who wishes there were some sort of rules for the classifieds

I have bought, sold, donated, had donated, and traded lots of parts here - all good experiences so far except one. One jerkoff told me a part was mine and then when I asked about paying him was told it was already sold! Don't see around here too much anymore.

The proper etiquette should be (and for everything in life), your word is your bond. Plus... Honor, Respect and Integrity.

You could post rules, but that isnt going to stop anyone from breaking them if they want to. So, it's kind of pointless.

Maybe true. But if there were hard fast rules like the AUP rules. At least when someone f's you over you could call them out on it. At this point its the sellers word and thats all

There's been a couple "call-outs" and the resultant flame sessions in the past. It solves nothing and creates bad feelings as members take sides.
I've bought, sold, and given away a lot of stuff through this site and profit was never my motive. I just figured that was the driving force here - help each other out with info and parts. That's what makes this place special and why we keep coming back day after day.

Once we lose that "bond" - it's over....

The only rules are integrity, honesty, and courtesy.

Even with rules it would still come down to each members word over another. Ebay has set policies that are pretty tight and it still comes down to each persons word over another. Here we don't have any of the protocols in place and frankly shouldn't since this is a site about sharing information not selling and buying. The classifieds here are a luxury not a necessity.

As we've posted at the top of the classifieds forum, "the buyer and seller are the sole parties in the transactions". If it became an issue I would personally vote to get rid of them.

Exactly. The Classifieds are a convenience only.

Dave, it's disheartening to hear of crap like this and I would suggest using Zdenko's method. At least after the seller screws you over, you would have every right to call them an asshat.

I don't know about public floggings, but generally I do like to hear the details of deals gone bad because if one person is doing it a lot, if there's a pattern, I don't think that's the kind of person we want here and I would lobby to have them blocked from the site. That said, I've investigated this sort of thing before and I do try to get both sides of the story.

Ya know, its funny that we got this thread going and I check the clasifieds today and heres another example of the "wrong way" to do things...

"tajue17" posts a thread for a d-tool asking if anyone has one they can part with. Nightrider responds right away "ill throw it in the mail tomorrow"

And the post after that is by "ramsound" typing...

"Nick(nightrider), I need one. I'd gladly pay all mailing costs and something for your time."

So of course i posted right away telling nick to sell it to tajue17 (the guy who actually started the thread for it)

This burns me up a bit cause Ive been helping Ted (tajue17) and giving him advice on where to get info from this site and which members can help him. I was actually the one that told him to put a post in the classifieds for the d-tool before buying a new one.

If you want a part, post for it, dont go into someone elses post and persuade people for stuff.

Props to nightrider for doing the right thing

heres the thread

I know it can happen at any time but I've probably conducted dozens of buy/sell/give/receive transactions over the past few years without a hint of trouble. A few times I've had members give me stuff and I've had to almost force them to let me take care of the shipping. Also when I'm making a deal I tend to give members a pretty fair shake as far as price. In a way I guess it's payback for the knowledge I've gleaned from here.

Huh. That's like sniping on ebay.

The correct response from Ramsound should've been, "Anybody else got one? I need one too." I've seen that a lot (and it's not like it's a super rare part). May have done that myself. Another potential response could've been, "I need one too, let me know if tajue17 decides he doesn't need it." Seen and done that a bunch, too. But I would never have interfered with someone else's transaction.

Luckily I don't feel I have been screwed over by anybody here and I've bought and sold lots of stuff.

See thats what makes this different than usual cause Ted was specifically asking for the part. (and getting it) Theres a very small chance that he would of canceled with nightrider, but its highly unlikely cause hes the one who put the thread up. And Nightrider didnt mention a thing about money which most likely means he was gonna toss it in the mail, no strings attached. And Ramsound says he'll pay him for it.

OK, Ok, cool it guys. I'm not trying to steal anything. Once in the past I was offering something cheap (here) and when I tried to get the mailing address of the person who said they wanted it, they had already gotten one from someone else. I sold it to someone else who said they wanted it. I was glad they posted.

I don't use ebay and never have. Sorry the wording wasn't right, but there was no sinister intent. BTW, even if someone wrote they would ship it for free, I would still offer to pay their expense. That probably won't change.
