Hi Folks

I would like to install a audible warning buzzer to remind me that I’ve left my turn signals on.

I’m after something that will fit under the chrome console that sits on top of the tank......something small but loud enough to hear when travelling and wearing a full face helmet.
Any help, advice or tips you can give would be appreciated.

I know there used to be a guy selling this type of unit on eBay but never seen anything listed lately

Thanks in advance.

John

I don't know bro. With loud pipes, full helmet and 70+ wind noise how loud would it need to be. LOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUD.
Might be a bit distracting in town traffic.

It's not speeding till you get pulled over.

Seems unlikely that you could hear anything much quieter than your horn over the ambient noise. You could get a 12V piezo buzzer from the UK equivalent of Radio Shack and just try it for audibility. (mind you, there are commercial products so I guess they might work web page)

Another way to go would be to get one of the signal cancellers that probably brent sells - they'll kill the signal after 30 seconds unless the brakes are on.

Or you could do what I did and develop a twitch in your left thumb to turn them off.

I've tried to condition myself to hit the turn signal cancel
on the first shift out of a corner. Your results may vary.
I do OK on my own, but tend to leave it on in group riding.

Nope, there just isn't anyone there to let you know its on!

I'm so bad about leaving it on the guys I ride with are probably ready to take up a collection to buy me a signal minder!

Learning from my mistakes... again and again.

Here's a different idea, and cheaper, if you have a windshield. Get a couple of 1 1/2" convex mirrors from an auto parts store. They make them self adhesive to stick to a regular car mirror. Stick them to the INSIDE of the shield, high enough for you to see the lights on the bars, (again, if you have the stock front signal setup). You can see the lights flashing in the little mirrors. It has worked for me.

Get the Kisan from Brent - USA made ( imagine that ) , can program time-outs . Mine's set at 8 blinks and it's out . Has a brake light override and running light option , but with the latter , you'll have YELLOW TAIL LIGHTS . Yuck . You won't hear the blinker buzzer thingy anyway .

Hi All

Thanks for the response.....Plenty of good advice.

I was considering buying the unit that Brent sells unfortunately last time I ordered parts from America I got hit with £18.00 import duty on goods that totalled £59.00.

As it happened (as suggested by Bill) I had a spare 12v buzzer from an alarm system lying around so I decided to give that a bash. The buzzer has 2 wires (red and black).
At this stage I didn’t want to start cutting wires on the bike so the connections were far from ideal.
I removed the console and pushed the wires of the buzzer into the 2 contacts of the bulb holder...switched on the left indicator and bingo a very loud audible warning. I then switched the right indicator on........silence.......

I then changed the position of the wires coming from the buzzer and fitted then to the opposite terminals in the bulb holder........right indicator on a loud audible warning ......left indicator silence.
With the switching arrangement, will I need 2 buzzer’s one for the indicators on the left and another for the ones on the right?
The wiring to the indicator warning bulb consists of 1 green wire and the other wire is green and black.....if I cut these splice them together with the wires from the buzzer will this operate the buzzer for both left and right indicators?

I have included a photo of the buzzer that I intend to use....I thinks it was £2.50 from Maplins. It looks very similar to the one in Gina’s link to Jenks.

I hope this makes sense.....electrics ain't relly my thing

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to respond.

I just came across this post from one of the other biker forums regarding audible alarms.......I think I'll save my pennies and buy one from Brent....Are these easy to fit?

"I assume you're talking about the audicator?

After using it for several months I think my only tip is ...... don't fit it.

It certainly wasn't easy to fit. I did it with a friend who has a lot of experience of car wiring and it took us a couple of hours to make a 'proper' job of it. Rather than wiring into the indicators he cut into the cables and brought everything to a multi-connector that wen out to the speak which is under the left hand fairing panel beside the tank.

The down side to it is when you are waiting at a junction and the noise becomes really annoying - to the point where I turn the indicator off until the lights change and then turn it on again.

Whatever it might say in the blurb it is hard to hear it above about 30mph."

Has anyone ever tried to put some kind of vibrating device in the seat or in a hand grip. Instead of making noise, it would buzz or vibrate to get your attention similar to a cell phone.

A vibrating device in the seat or hand grip is called a Harley Davidson....

Birchr,
The ironic thing about the signalminder is, now that I put one on I remember all the time to check my blinker switch! Often, I hit just to make sure it isn't on?!

I'm fortunate to have this function as part of my Acumen alarm system.
Didn't know whether to activate it or not at first but finally decided to.... and i'm very glad i did... after 20 flashes the beeper gradually increases in volume and can clearly be heard over my TORS.....came in handy on many an occasion.
