I just got my new 07 America back from the dealer. I was going to do the work myself; however, I lost my nerve and had them do it all. I got $1000 worth of accessories with the purchase. I had them remove the AI, put on the Freak Kit and put on Bubs long slash cuts. Now, the bike sounds great and seems to be running smooth; however, when I am running down the road and open the throttle wide open I don't get that snap your neck feeling I had when it was stock. It doesn't hesitate and the acceleration is smooth. It just doesn't have that quick jump it had. The mechanic said he used 160 mains which is right in line with Dinquas calculator. Any suggestions. It does seem to accelerate faster once it gets going.

Try putting a shim under the needles. This will help with that mid-range lag. The other option is to buy a pair of Thunderbird Sport (TBS) needles and use them.

160 is likely too big, most who have had them in a stock bore engine have found them to be too rich, myself included. What do you have in there for a pilot? Shim will add a little more fuel so then making the 160 seem even larger. I would first try a main around 150 to 155 depending on your elevation and couple that with a 45 pilot. Wouldn't shim the needle yet but maybe shim if the smaller main doesn't help.

I don't know what pilots are in there. I am assuming they are stock. The mechanic did tell me he used a 160 main. I did forget to mention, a friend of mine said he saw a puff of black smoke when I started it. The bike has a total of 560 miles. Sixty of which are after the mods. I will have to take the carbs out and look. I've seen a lot of posts on how to do it. I'll just have to take the plunge. Also, I think I read somewhere that we can get the jets just about anywhere but we need to tell them its for the new typed CVK carb, is that correct?

If you get them at a Harley shop I know you do, not sure from a jap bike shop. Best thing would be to take your stock jets that the shop took out with for comparison.

Hi Bill, I am also seeking suggestions on what jets and needles to use etc and have asked those who have K & N pods as well as bubs what they ended up using Here's the thread So hopefully both of us can find out what I expect will be similar settings BTW, before I bought my speedie Sheila, the only mechanical work I had done was oil changes and basic car tuning. Now because of this site and my manuals, I have recently done all my own mods as well as the 20k service which included replacing shims etc. It isn't hard if you do your research and it's really satisfying to boot.

i say go with one or 2 shims on the stock needle, then put in a 150 main, i bet that will get you close to happy
