Did you find you needed the shim because you had a dip in the power at mid throttle? I'd be willing to bet you could take it out and you'd find the bike ran just as well with slightly better gas mileage. That would get you a tad closer to the light brown (although the lack of lead in the gas these days makes the color harder to see).
