Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Well now Dwight I may be proven later on to be quite adept and quite accurate in my politcal views.
You see history plays out over time and those leaders and those who support leaders who may seem at once laden with error and misjudgement are often acquitted with honor for their stance and their actions years later.
One only need look at Abe Lincoln an early Republican for historical evidence and precedence in this regard.
A man of his time who was not only vilified and hated by all of the Confederate States of America at that time and had a multitude of political enemies within his own party and within the Washington elite in his time.
He literally and figuratively held his ground against all political odds in light of the unpopular war from the standpoint of many Northerners and the bitter hatred of the secessionist states.
Abe was vilified by the media in his time as much if not more than our current liberally biased mediea vilifies Republican policies , agendas and the President of our own time.
He was then shot and murdered by one of those haters. At the time many in the South and some in the North no doubt cheered his death or found it somehow politically convenient.
Ya just gotta figure if Keith Olberman lived and was WANNABE joiurnalist in 1863-1865 time frame he would be nightly referring to Abe as the "Worlds Worst Person" LOL.
So ultimately history will tell if we conservatives ..those of us who support our current administration are found to be "correct" or not.
This is the way of history glasshopper.

Well...like I said above, Kev....I have to admit that you're ABSOLUTELY CORRECT when it comes to GOOD TASTE in all things MOTORCYCLE RELATED, alright!!! Oh and BTW Kev, you could be right in the above, though I reeeeeeeally doubt it. AND, I also seriously doubt that our current beleaguered leader could EVER turn a phrase such as, "The better angels of our nature", without a "little" help from some highly paid speechwriter! And he'd probably STILL flub the line once he'd try to say it out loud anyway! (in other words....equating LINCOLN with "you-know-who"!!! ....COME ON KEV, QUIT IT...YOU'RE KILLIN' ME HERE!!!) What say we get back to why you and I BOTH have good taste in motorcycles here, HUH?!

Ok, my turn. For starters, it was simply a great looking motorcycle. Once the initial hook was set and I began researching, the desire grew uncontrollably. Triumph has some fantastic history behind it and is a worldwide name. They are highly reliable machines and its proven powerplant has remained largely unchanged for years.
Then there's the social aspect. With a Triumph, regardless of what group you may ride with, it's going to be a well respected bike. Granted there are going to be a few young bucks on HDs or crotch rockets that never even heard of Triumph, but more than likey they're idiots anyway. And chances are the elders of their own kind will correct them before I'd even have to open my mouth. The point is, you can ride with any crowd and be appreciated and respected.
Finally, there just isn't a whole lot of us out there. I'm one to have mostly gone against the grain...enjoying being different. No doubt one proudly gets that riding a Triumph!
On a side note, Melvin...I've been to Gibraltar a couple of times while deployed. LOVE your city! Been trying for years to get stationed there; unfortunately there really isn't any assignments there for me. You are one lucky SOB for getting to have the experience of riding your bonnie through such a beautiful place!

I was looking for a first bike after obsessing over them for years (the whole family are bikers). I was origionally looking at something small and nippy like a Beemer and came across a Triumph Speedmaster. Chatted it through with the missus and my mum and she (my mum) said "if you buy that piece of dog ****** plastic on wheels i'll disown you" so i bought a Triumph for reference, my mum is just shy of her 80th birthday and still rides a Norton. regardless the America has been a fairly forgiving bike to this learner and i've certainly enjoyed chatting to the locals about it (you'd be surprised how many of the old fellers around here rode triumphs when they were kids - i'm based in the midlands). when the missus passes it's going to be a Bonnie or Thruxton for her (whether she likes it or not). Not sure of your wifes build but think that through well. Wendy wanted a T-100 or something along that line when she first started looking thinking the America was too big. The seat hight was actually worse for her on the T-100. She is short only about 5'1. Floor boards and pedal adjustment fixed the control reach for her and risers to bring the bars back for her. I lowered the back 2" for her too but it would have had to be more on the T-100. It is her first bike and at this rate it will also be her last, she loves it.
