On the E-Z Brackets I am having a slight problem. When I tighten the posts they seem to go out of align and square. A quick question maybe someone can answer. Is there supposed to be a small spacer or washer between the fender and the rail? It seems when I tighten the fender bolts it squeezes in the rail throwing out the posts alignment. I bought the bike used with a backrest already installed so I've never seen the set up stock.
Thanks
My mind and body are still out of tune
I hope they run into each other real soon "

No spacers inbetween the actuall bracket, but the one furthest to the front of the bike is slightly thinner than the rear one. Hope this helps. Sorry about photo took it in the garage..

The instructions mention that you may need to tighten/loosen each attachment point to get them to line up. I needed to do this to get mine on. One seemed a touch loose but it's no issue at all. If I tighten them up all the way the bags will not go on.

I had to use a couple washers under one of them to get them to line up, but not between the fender and rail... it's between the post and rail.

I bought a set from Eddy with the posts for no back rest. When I installed them the front posts were the thickness of the groove further apart from each other than were the back ones so the brackets wouldn't slide on. I thought that the wrong posts might have been sent so I contacted Eddy, and within an hour received a call from Dave at EZ brackets with apologies and a new set was sent out no charge. Very impressive service. It had the same problem as the original set so I used a cut-off wheel on a Dremel to shorten the front posts a bit and buffed the ends with a flapper wheel. Works great now. I did phone Dave back thanking him for his service and good product, and advised him that he should look into his inventory for this application - maybe a situation of mislabeled product? This experience led to my post about being lucky to have the vendors we have - guess I won't do that again!

Mislabeling seems a possibility. I installed several sets and haven't had a problem. Wendys tends to stick a little on one side but nothing a little wiggling doesn't cure, rather have it a little tight than loose.

I've two sets of EZ bracket posts. One for the L bracket sickle and one set for straight fender rails. The left side rear post (L bracket sickle) needed one thin washer after a trip to the Pig-n-Whistle one night...
Hold a straight edge between the post groves on either side. This will show you what you need where you need it.

Mine were a little tight to get on and off so I took a drimmle tool and enlarged the key holse just a scoash.

Same here. To get the slots to line up on the rear posts, I had to use one washer on the left, two on the right.

I had same problem. I took off my sissybar moumt and flatened the resessed mating area. It looked like when the mounting holes were punched the material was tweaked a little.

I noticed the same problem, forced the brackets on, tweaked/bent them slightly so they slide on/off nicely and then attached them to bags~~well worth have'n though

A question for the gallery.... I scored a set of tiny hardbags with easy brackets and posts off of e-bay. I had the easy brackets chromed. (It's an illness, I know.... ) I figured the additional layer of chrome might make the brackets real tight in the grooves of the posts, but instead, there is still some wiggle room. Is this normal? The posts are new, the brackets slip into the grooves just fine, but if you grab the bottom of the bags and pull outward they move about an inch or slightly more. Wiggle wiggle. Again, is this normal?

Well, wasn't the powder coat removed before the chrome when on? What's the different in thickness between the powder and the chrome? I'm thinking it's close to a wash, with the powder possibly being thicker.

That's what I was thinking. Whatever paint/powder they used on mine is pretty thick, so I bet you actually came out a little thinner. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. You can probably shim a post with a washer to actually missalign them just a bit to create a tighter fit.

Powder coat removal vs chrome thickness is an interesting theory, but my thread-hijacking question was is the wiggle normal? Or do they fit more snuglier? They're not going to fall off, I'm just curious...

One side has more wiggle than the other. No issue at all.

No wiggle in either set of ours either, they are in fact so tight they are a little tricky to get on and off. I have to do them just right and evenly to make them seat all the way.

Mine wiggled a bit, until I made a bracket that tie them together back behind the taillight. Granted, that slows down the quick release feature by two extra nuts, but I'm probably running much heavier bags on easybrackets than just about anyone else and didn't want the extra wobbly stress on the posts bolts.

Thanks for the info, all. I'll come up with something to remove the wiggle. That's where the fun is......

I used a couple of thin washers to move the rear post out a skosh to tighten the fit on mine and the left side is still a tiny bit looser than the right. I also found that leaving the posts snug but not tight helped in getting them into the best alignment for a snug fit using the brackets as my guage.

My posts are tight on the fender and the brackets line up perfectly. It's the groove in the posts that seems to be a smidgen wider than the "meat" of the easy brackets. Both sides. So when you grab the bottom of the bags and pull outward, there's a bit of wiggle... Again, it ain't much, but I thought they would fit tight. I'm thinking about finding a thin cir-clip or snap ring to take up the clearance. If that doesn't work then maybe shimming one post out a bit would do it....

I had the same problem. When I tightened the bolts, one of the posts would skew causing the slot not to be parallel. I found a slight misalignment between the sissy bar bracket, and the fender rail which was the cause. I used a dremmel tool to open up the hole on the fender mount. Do not go to far in or you will damage the threads in the fender nut. After doing this, it all worked fine.
Just a note, the three other bolts were easy to turn, the one that was misaligned was very difficult which indicated that the threads of the bolt was rubbing on the OD of the fender mount. If you search the old posts you will find my original post.
