when trying to find a fix, I saw that the rubber boots that connect the airbox to the back of the carbs are spliting pretty badly. they are all cracked. Other then removal and freak install, what is the next option? Is there a rubber cement that I can use to patch it up? I REALLY like how the bike runs with the stock box and don't want to fiddle with it. I'm not even sure that they are crack through but it's something that has to be addressed.

Any advise would be very helpfull.....thanks!!!!!!!

First, the vacuum caps are stock items at any auto store usually on a plastic stick with multiple sizes for a couple of bucks. And, I also use Frank's method of a connecting tube between the manifolds on one of my bikes...I'd like to think it helps but I really can't tell the diff between one motor and the other. I still carry some spare caps because I've lost one and riding home with all that backfiring at each light is distressing.

I had some pretty visible cracking in my rubber carb boots on my '01 so I replaced them thinking the cracks went all the way through. Not! Those puppies are very thick and the dry rot was only on the surface. Still, the new boots gave me renewed confidence in the bike so I was happy to have them; they're not too expensive and an easy replacement if you are armed with a dab of silicon spray and put them on the right way
