its been a while, has anybody tried this yet? I need a lockable gas cap, I can not believe that Triumph doesn't make one for our bikes and I'm wondering if this will work. I want an easy replacement solution; I don't have the time nor the tools to do a mod for this right now.

I like the cap... maybe I'll run down to my local dealer and try swapping the caps on the Thruxton and Speedmaster they have on the showroom floor.

Martin,
Anytime a motorsickle is on a sidestand,
it is never ex-wife and girlfriend proof
or heaven forbid, wife proof.
Regardless of the lockable nature of the gas cap.

I thought the one that brent sells was sorta like a locking cap, as in you need the special key tool to open it

better than nothing i guess

Oh the stock caps will lock alright,,just over tighten once.

Sorry that wasnt helpful was it? But if your reason for wanting a locking cap is to prevent gas thieft, Keep in mind
it takes abbout 10 seconds to yank the fuel line off the petcock, attach a foot of tubbing and drain the tank dry.
And well if I was gonna steal gas out of a bike thats the way I'd do it.

I thought the gas cap that Brent has doesn't fit the newer bikes, I have an 07.

Well yeah, the reason was to deter gas theft since I'll be riding more to the office. The place is very safe and the bike would be under cover and very visible but I will also be riding to some other places of course and with gas prices getting so high, bikes, in the mind of thieves would be an easy target, right?. We all know thieves aren't the most brilliant people in the world, do you think they are smart enough to figure the petcock? Chances are small that someone would try to steal my gas but the chances are even smaller if I make it a little tougher for them, at least that's what I think.

Maybe I'm worrying too much about nothing...

The timing on this is nothing short of twilight zone wierd. Was going to post a rant and saw this thread first.... yes, they are stealing gas, bastages!!!!!!

Went to Costco yesterday to pick up some coffee (Mmmmmm, fresh roasted right there in the store, I digress),anyway straight to the coffee, couple minutes in line and then another minute at the grinder and I am out in under ten minutes. Throw the coffee in the saddlebag, fire the bike up and on the road home. Three blocks away bike starts cutting out, quick glance at the odo and I am 27 miles into a full tank, WTF??? Reach down and switch to reserve but she is not going to recover. Coast over to the side of the road and try to restart it a few times but nada. You gotta be kidding me. Start looking around the bike hoping I am going to find something as obvious as a shoe lace untied and guess what, I do. Fuel line is off the petcock. Unscrew the tank and there is nothing in there but an echo. Push the bike four blocks up the street to a gas station and how empty was it you say? Put 4.4 gallons in it, sweet jeebus they didn't drain it they mopped it out. You know, that coffee this morning just didn't taste like a thirty buck bag of beans. People suck.

dam?...I was just about to type that it seems like a waste of time stealing from a motorcycle cause its only like 4 gallons of gas..haha

Jacks right though, the gas lines right there, you might as well use gravity and dump it, instead of using a syphon like a car....I guess thats what makes a motorcycle the perfect target.

Honestly though, I think the theives are always the smartest people. The type of guy that put his brains towards stealing instead of buying it out right. Its smarter to steal something than to earn money and buy it.

Its the dumb guys saying "hey wheres my gas?"
(no offense glazer)

My old man told me, "if they want it, theyre gonna get it regardless...you just wanna slow them down" You can lock everything up tight, it dont matter

I guess thieves do know about the petcock then, man that sucks! I bet you that plenty of people saw it happen too.

A locking gas cap might be a deterent though for the less savvy thief.
My buddy, who is a cop, agrees, if a theif wants something, they will get it.
He also says, "A deterent sometimes keeps an honest man honest." I guess that is all we can hope for.

Don't have a locking gas cap yet, as I keep my bike locked in the garage, unless riding it or parked in a secure area at work. I would think that a valid reason for a locking cap is to keep kids and vengeful ones from putting undesireable things like sugar or sand in the gas tank. But, the filter might stop the sand, I don't know about the sugar or salt. Maybe far-fetched though.

the petcock has a very fine filter on it, I just found about a tablespoon worth of sand in it. Then theres the aftermarket inline filter, and the hidden filter to get through
