Great slideshow there, John!

And for some reason the whole time I was watchin' it I was hummin' to myself an old Jan and Dean tune...(won't come back from) "Deadman's Curve".

Steve sure doesn't look that much worse for the wear there, does he?!

Hey folks,
I am home now. I wanted to re-read this thread before replying.

Thanks so much for the good wishes from around the world. I truly, sincerely appreciated it. I also thank Bob, John and Z for dropping by the hospital to lift my spirits. Bob called a few times later as well, thanks Bob.

Yes, I have a chrome ball in my shoulder (almost a total shoulder replacement), a screw in my left ankle and a royal blue weight bearing cast on my lower left leg. It was the closest color to match my bike, but turns out to be the color of RN uniforms at hospital.

There was a complication from the surgery that really messed me up last Thursday. Basically, my bowels were not waking up and the MD's were worried I might have blocked or damaged them in accident. So I spent some time with a tube in my nose going all the way down inside my stomach while they did tests. But they did get going finally.

I don't expect full range of motion with my left arm in the future. Hopefully I will be able to put things up in overhead compartment on plane.

As y'all have noticed, good heavy gear saved my skin. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of this. I have one loose leather piece on my jacket's left shoulder and that can easily be sewn back on.

I am very thankful this happened as we were riding in a group. That road was not busy until lunch. I could have laid there for 30 minutes until a car came by. I am really glad John was there. Seems he had previous experience with it and helpled us stay focused.

Thanks Z for riding my bike back to dealer. And a big thanks for Karen driving up to get me off the island.

I'm calling this accident as my Benny Hill moment. It was pretty embarassing all in all. But good (painful) lessons learned as well.

Sorry I can't report on the Dart screen and that Scottoiler slipperblock device. They will have to wait until I am back on the bike. However, when we were at Cycle Barn with my bike, one of the service guys seemed to know about the slipperblock and good things to say about it.

OK, one handed typing is driving me crazy.

Thanks again to all of you for your best wishes. I can't drink right now but please have one for me.

Steve

Glad to hear that you are at home all put back together. Any word on how long recovery wil be until you can ride again?

Even though you can't ride right now, I hope you will still try to make it to Chehalis, even if it is on four wheels.

Great to see you're on the mend Steve. You must have felt like sh#t seeing you're bike like that. Hopefull now you can focus on a good recovery so you can be up and riding again asap. All the best with your bike repairs too mate. BTW, that slide show was really interesting as it helped me understand what had actually happened. To be perfectly honest, I felt like what you did could have quite easilly have happened to me cos estimating some of those twisties isn't always that easy. All the best anyway Steve and hope we can hear more from you soon.

I'm curious to know how badly the helmet was damaged in the accident. Any pictures of that?

My lid was not damaged. My left shoulder absorbed the impact and apparently it showed in the X-rays & Cat scans. I understand the ball sheared right off the end of my bone and was floating around free. I'd love to see the pics and get copies.

My gloves got chewed up and I did have a couple of scratches on back of my hand. Gloves are easily replaceable.

Yikes, just got word of estimate!! But I get a new speedo with 0 miles on odometer. She'll be "new" again!!!

Thanks again to all of you. I'm itching to get that Dart flyscreen and Scottoiler with Slipperblock on her. And try out Fasteddy's cool shirts.

Steve

About $5,800!!!

I haven't seen the estimate. I am hoping I can get a look at it today. I will be calling my insurance company about it because I have questions. One is the estimate included something about front end alignment. When he rode my bike back to Lynnwood, Z did not complain about wobble or steering so I don't know if it's necessary or more a safety precaution.

Yep, they totaled it!!!! Grrrrr

But they will let me take off my sissy bar/luggage rack, leather tank cover and Bubs! I'll have to reinstall the stock pipes, glad I saved them!
Now, I gotta find another 07 TBA blue/white. I heard there was one at the dealer where my bike is. Hopefully it's still there.

Just to let you all know, they let me take off my accessories, including my Bubs, yesterday. My Dad & brother went there, met up with Z & celt. Turns out the shop guys had already removed ~90% of what I want for us. They said they would re-install the stock pipes for us. I think they wanted the training experience as well, but I was glad they did so much, at no charge.

I've now got two dealers searching for a new 07 TBA blue/white somewhere in states. I've told them that I don't want an 08. I should get my check from insurance this week. The trick will be getting the papers, for new bike, signed since I am trapped in a second floor condo with stairs. I can't go up/down stairs.

I should get the free $1000 of accessories also. I'll get another lightbar, kneepads but will get the new engine bars with adjustable footrests and the aux power supply. Yes, AI will also be removed. I already have sissybar and tank cover.

And with the new Dart flyscreen and Scottoiler with the Slipperblock, the new bike will look pretty awesome from the start. Plus some other goodies to go on like sintered metal brake pads and Xenon blue bulbs. Too bad I'll have to wait until August until I'll be ready to really ride her.

Gordy, thanks for the gift!!!

Thanks again to everyone, it's truly appreciated.
Steve

They used to be Lakwood Motosports.

Hopefully someone will be able track down that '07 for you. If not, I did find out yesterday that you can order '07 tanks and they still mount the same on the '08s.

Reviving an old thread, but I am pretty dang excited, and it's a nice way to close this chapter. It's been a long recovery, I'm not nor will ever be 100%, especially with the left shoulder and it's active range of motion.

However, I will finally have another 2007 blue/white TBA the middle of next month (Dec. 09). It's taken time to get all the proverbial ducks in a row, missed a couple of other prime opportunities for TBA's but just had to wait. At least I now have another bike.

The bike looks pretty stock, even with 10K miles on it. I'm going to have to find a pillion seat for it, for whatever reason the previous owner removed it. He/she never removed the AI either, so the pipes are a wee bit blue, but I can live with that. At least I now finally have a use for all these great 07 TBA parts, I ordered before the accident, that are sitting in my garage (Dent flyscreen, Scott Oiler w/slipperblock, new brake pads, etc). Plus the stuff that Z and my family removed from the previous bike for me, especially my Bubs (scratches and all!!). I'm going to have find another lightbar though, no big deal.

I'm going to take some time to rebuild the riding confidence, but I look forward to riding with some of local Triumph brothers/sisters this summer. I've been going crazy the past 18 months, seeing all the bikes on the road.

Steve

PS: I recently finally got to throw my leg over a Thunderbird, in all places, down in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Didn't take her for a ride, too late in afternoon and I had no gear, now would I want to at this time. Nice bike, clutch and brake handlebars are massive!! But I'll stick with the TBA for now. I've waited too dang long to get one again.

PPS: Hopefully the Howard Hanson D-A-M won't let go this winter!! Oh the irony of THAT happening to me now!!

Good to hear your back in the saddle. Might be good time to sign up for the experienced rider course. Signing up now you might you might have class by spring. Might get the cobwebs out since you have not ridden in a while. I wonder if some buckhorn handlebars would help with your now limited range of motion. Look forward to riding with the Northwest group again.

Thanks everyone!

I now have the title, Owner's Manual and spare keys. Bike is en-route and will be delivered after I get back from a quick trip to Thailand. Starting to look out for a pillion seat, since the previous owner removed it for whatever reason. My Triumph leather jacket and tourmaster pants are finally getting repaired. I already bought new gloves (Bent Bike is great for these!).
I'm looking forward to fitting on all the stuff I ordered for the last bike before the accident. I'm also making a little mental checklist of all the things I want to do upfront, like oil change, change spark plugs, removing the AI, brake fluid change (?), fit on the Bubs, etc. Z, we are going to have work out a time for me to visit you to help me with the Scott Oiler and Slipperblock.

Starting to feel like Christmas a little early this year!!

Steve

Yep! Welcome back Steve! It is indeed great to hear you'll soon once again be...

(...AND of course, "out where a friend is a friend" TOO!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

You're sounding good, Steve. Glad to see an early xmas present is coming for you. Now you have something to look forward to this winter, like fitting all those parts.
Hey Dwight, which one in the picture is you?
