Baffled about TORs!

Over the past 3 weeks I have been doing the Wiseco BB job on my bike and whilst waiting for the barrels to come back from the machinist I thought I would have a go at removing 1 or more of the baffles from my TOR pipes.
These are the long slash cut type from approx 2003/4. The first baffle was about 12" or so down the pipes so using a length of bar with a chisel end I carefully worked around the edge until the piece came out. But behind it is long tube approx 9" long surrounded by fibreglass wadding. Question is..what do I do next? Remove the wadding and the pipe or what?...I cannot see how I can remove the pipe as there is no way of getting hold of it. Has anyone else experienced this type of TOR and how did you de-baffle them?
Any suggestions??

I've heard of TORS with baffles but mine are straight through pipes. I ran them a few thousand miles and put the stock pipes back on-something about the tone (and the volume) just bugged me. So I think you could remove the baffles and the TORS would function okay-BUT some other pipes sound better in my opinion.

Why would you drop the cash for a BB, and not get a high
perf exhaust?
Just wondering because I feel I got the most increase in power
by adding the Bubs along with bigger jets, and a UNI filter.
Flow in - flow out.
I personally don't think these bikes need the amount of air
that a freak or nark system flows requiring jets to 150 or more?

But what do I know?

The TORs you have I have seen before and don't lend themselves to gutting very easily. You have to remove that tube and the packing and thats not an easy task. Might have to go in the header end and carefully try and knock the baffle plate loose on that end being very careful not to knock the reducer cone out. Regular stock pipes have a series of baffles with a very small amount of packing behind mesh only maybe 1/8" thick and you can remove 1 baffle at a time without messing with the packing. Good luck.

Stephen, I'm sorry I can't help you on this one, although I have those exact same pipes and for a while I seriously considered removing the 1st baffle too. I guess I'm glad I didn't now and I do appreciate your letting us know what you came across.

I'm with Charlie on this one though and whilst I don't know what your financial situation is, I would seriously consider perhaps buying the bubs (or others) just because the weisco kit deserves them, and maybe trying to fix and then sell the tors. Let us know how you go

Oh, just one further thing. It would be really good if you could take a photo of what the internals of your type of tors look like and post it up here. I know it won't help you now but it may help others in the future with their decisions on what to do. For instance, if you had seen a photo of your tors, would you have gone ahead and taken out the first baffle? Just a thought but we like to help each other here

Thanks everyone..I just thought I should give it a go as there is so much about de-baffling TORs..seems no one ever had my pipes which incidently have the part no. A9600017.
As for a photo there would be nothing to see, all I can say is that at the other end behind the cone is an offset hole which I presume is the other end of the long tube. I would assume that these pipes have 1 baffle which is lagged and quite long (10" or so). I will look in to new pipes in the future but here in the UK there is not the choice unless of course we ship things in at great expense! Thanks for the replies guys.

Most of the gutting pipes info is about stock pipes not the TORs. I have a set of pipes like you and didn't gut them for the very reason you are running into now. The stock pipes gut easily.
