I had the same exact thing happen to me a few weeks ago and I handled it the same exact way that you did. It turned into a mess. The only thing that matters now is if your boss stands behind you, if you were a bit hot headed in your approach, well deal with that next time. But it must appear to everyone that you did the right thing. You gotta admitt it felt kinda good, right.
