A big part of the forest fire problem is because we prevent the natural cycle of those fires so when they do hit they are bad and plenty of fuel that has been building up.I have seen and read quite a bit on that too.

I was watching the Discovery Channel the other night. The show about the top ten military rifles of all time.
The AK-47 came in at number one.
Seems it's nearly indestructible, reliable as the sunrise, idiot proof and cheap to make. As such, every faction in even the poorest parts of the globe are armed.

And if people didn't make AK-47s, where did they come from??
