Sure they've embraced green. FOR US! China, India and most of Asia and (I think) all of Africa are exempt. The Europeans want to use various baselines for emissions that make it very easy for them, and impossible for us, to comply without huge hits to the economy. And, despite that, the Europeans still aren't making their goals.
They are considering CO2 as a pollutant because they say, with scant proof by the way, it is causing the Earth to warm. Despite the fact that the warming trend seems to have ended a decade ago.
Better fuel economy and cleaner power generation will not stop the increase in CO2 emissions much less cut it to the levels the greenies want the US to agree to. Only major cuts in the standard of living will do that. And since India and China will make up for any cuts on our part dozens or hundreds of times over, what is the point of that except to beggar the US?
Global warming is no longer a scientific debate. It has become a theological one as many people are as attached to it as the most zealous religious adherent. The demands that we must do something immediately, despite their own admission that even the most draconian economy busting measures could slow their predicted disaster by only a few years, tells me that there is something else to the agenda.
The cap and trade regimen the greenies want to impose will make fortunes for a few that will make Warren Buffet and Bill Gates look like the corner florist, and do nothing for the environment. Al Gore is set to do very well however.
The current hysteria is about to go bust as all the recent evidence is that there is no man made global warming. In fact little or no warming at all. Like the previous scares this one will fade away. I’m just hopeful that this time those who promoted the scare will be held accountable for it.
