I work for Ford and have seen my share of FMEA's. Great tool for understanding ever aspect of any component or system design. But like you said, impossible to complete one on our earth and all of its interactions both internal and external. That's why I chuckle at climate models since there is no way for the modelers to completely capture every finite variable. It is as if they never heard of Chaos.
