Ahem... Are we forgetting that giant glowing orb in the sky we call the SUN? Solar output has diminished and we are headed into another solar minimum the likes of which we last saw near the tail end of the 16th century. Yes we should make an effort to pollute less, although I think people are crazy to say that CO2 is a pollutant when quite a lot of living things depend on it, not to mention it is naturally occurring compound. The Sun has more of an effect on the climate of this earth than we ever will. That is not to deny that green house gasses also play a role. However the graphs show that higher solar irradiance precedes warming, and CO2 follows and vice-versa.
I still say that with little more than a 100 or so years of accurate records it is still not enough to truly understand how this planet works. It is a very complex machine with so many interactions and variables you couldn't do an FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) on it if you had 1000 years to complete it.
So, lets evolve away from c02 producing energy (with the exception of breathing). That will take time. After all, we didn't evolve in a few days. Lets quit politicizing the issue. Lets ignore the chicken little's like Al (if you don't believe you think the earth is flat / manbearpig is going to get you) Gore, as well as the opposite extreem and continue to collect data as we evolve away from co2 and greenhouse emissions. Its not like we are suddenly all going to burn off or freeze up. Sheesh.
Lets not forget that this whole thing got blown out of proportion early by scientists that ignored factors and exaggerated others simply because they needed the grant money (Hey, out of work scientists need jobs too!). And now politicians are doing the same thing simply to get elected. The real truth will bear itself out, and we will all have a laugh over a Guinness at my place.
