I'm almost ready to do the deal on a new TBA. I've had the test ride, loved it, in fact surprised at how easy the bike lays into corners. Getting back on my T100 clinched it, I felt as if I was perched too high in the air and my feet felt uncomfortable tucked underneath. I'm hoping to go for a load of accessories on purchase as I've been more or less promised a very generous discount on them. Amongst other things I want a sissy bar and rack, which is better for carrying some gear on? I think I prefer the look of the low bar but thought the tall one would be easier to strap bags etc to. Any thoughts?
I'm going to have some footboards and also get a Utopia drivers backrest as I feel that without I may have a problem with my tailbone on a longer ride.

John, I have an 07, you probably know it comes standard with a thicker pillion seat, I thought the short backrest/rack was just, well a bit short  I purchased the tall backrest and rack last month. I will mail you a few pictures if you want tomorrow, just PM me with your email.

I have the short one and strap all kinds of stuff to it. We went to Gettysburg before Wendy had her bike and strapped everything we needed to it we needed and rode 2 up.We were there about a week.

I could be wrong (I have been before-just ask the wife  ) but I think there is only a 2"-3" difference between the two. So as far as strapping anything to them it shouldn't matter either way. Just get the one you think looks best.

i have the tall one and it is great for straping stuff to and imho better for a passenger, but get whatever you feel would best suit you

I can't comment on if the tall one is more comfortable for the passenger or not, as I've only had the short on in the past. I did just install the tall one, but will have to wait til it gets warm out before the wife gets on and tries it out before I know if it's any better.

I've ridden bikes with the short one and the tall one.
I prefer the tall one. Having never carried a pillion (save Shawn - the Sheep) I don't really care about passenger comfort. However I have a sissy bag and it's enormous. It's easier to put on to the tall bar, it's easier to strap other stuff to and then use the rack too.
Paul has the short one on his and he wises he'd got the tall one.
Just get the tall one.

My Mrs likes the comfort of the tall bar, I like it because you can strap all sorts of things to it for rallies etc..

I have the short one and IMO it looks better. But the tall one is better for sissy bar travel packs if you are going to do some touring.

Short works well for me solo and with the bride. I can strap on all the bike can carry no issue.

Thanks for all the responses, you're a helpful bunch. The increase in thickness of the pillion seat has been mentioned, have triumph increased the thickness of the foam in the front of the pillion and if they have, roughly by how much? Also have they changed the seat pan? The reason I'm asking is the Utopia backrest for the driver goes in the rear seat and I don't want the fitting buried in the foam. As they make their stuff for the TBA up as a special order, I would imagine they could alter it without a problem.

My wife rides with me a lot and we tested both. The short one may look a bit better, but hands down, the tall one is much more comfortable for the rider. This is especially true with the new pillion. I had the original pillion and changed to the new one for more rider comfort. It is not bigger or taller in the front. It is actually narrower in the front, but wider and thicker in the back raising the person up about an inch.
I also agree that the taller one works better for sissy bar bags and backrest bags. I use both when traveling solo.

I've replied in the other thread Bob, but thanks again and the consensus of opinion is the tall one is better on the 07-08 bikes. Apparently especially if you want to carry sheep  . So that's what I'll go for.
Also I'm now confident enough to order the drivers backrest from Utopia as soon as a couple of bits from my T100 sell on eBay.

I ordered the short because I'm not a fan of really tall racks. But after getting it I felt it was way too short. I exchanged it for the tall, which is really more like medium, compared to some of the tall sissy bars out there.

After a little research I have ordered MY NEW BIKE which I will be collecting Sat with the tall sissey bar pureley for luggage strapping/carrying purposes. Oh yes Gina will shaun the sheep be riding pillion to Dent, if so make sure he dont run wild in the field, you may take the wrong one home. Is his breeding of the blow up type  Baz

Try and get the dealer to bounce fer a badge. The sissy bar was shown in Triumph catalogue with a neat wee badge oan it so I collected bike sissy bar installed wi nae badge ...asked "emm where is the badge?" oh another £8-00 quid please. No a chance of me paying £8-00 on top of whit I spent on extras. So got masell a wee Scottish emblem and stuck that on. 99P from local garage. Have these clowns never heard of customer goodwill.

I asked the same thing when I bought my short bar. The picture is a little misleading, to say the least

I agree that it's pure bollocks we have to pay to get the badge shown on the back of the sissy bar. I'm thinking Fasteddy's sticker will look plenty sharp there:

I got an idea, why don't one of you computer geeks (I mean that in a good way) Photo shop a Hardly emblem on one and email it to Triumph corporate office. Maybe then they will put them on themselves.

Have you ever noticed that you need a magnifying glass to find the brand name on some of the Japanese Harley clones? You also never see the riders wearing T-shirts with a big YAMAHA or SUZUKI at the cruiser hangouts. I'm not talking about sport bike riders. I love having a bike that Im proud of and want everyone to know it - and it's not a Harley Davidson.

That's why I've orded the oval badge, it's bigger.
Should have tried to talk em into a free badge, didn't think about it at the time, too busy drooling (not a pretty sight!) over the bike in the showroom.

John, I put the oval badge on the back of my tall sissy bar and it looks like it should have come that way. The smaller triangle badges are already on each side of my bike. One that came on the right engine cover and the other centered on my chrome battery box cover.

Sold some stuff from my T100 on eBay, got £140 for a king and queen seat would you believe? Just waiting for a cheque to clear and I'll order the Utopia backrest.

I ended up taking a piece of aluminum 4.25" X 10". A metal guy rounded the top and polished it. We drilled holes to match the original sissy bar plate (after removing the original pad). It bolted on tight, using 4 holes through the sissy bar plate and aluminum attached piece. I also ordered a "custom" sized pad from Corbin to mount on the new arrangement. I got the idea from an old board ba.com guy from the Wash DC area 5 years ago. Not for everyone, but I'm happy

I get riled when they want to charge you extra to advertise for them. I liked the hardly emblem idea. I'll probably go with the Fast Eddy decale though.
