My wife rides with me a lot and we tested both. The short one may look a bit better, but hands down, the tall one is much more comfortable for the rider. This is especially true with the new pillion. I had the original pillion and changed to the new one for more rider comfort. It is not bigger or taller in the front. It is actually narrower in the front, but wider and thicker in the back raising the person up about an inch.

I also agree that the taller one works better for sissy bar bags and backrest bags. I use both when traveling solo.
