Is there any chance they removed the tank? It may be that the connector to the ignition module (rearmost of the 3 on the right side of the frame under the tank) was partly disconnected. Also, check the battery ground (earth) cable at both ends. If it is loose, it could vibrate around enough to break contact just long enough to reset the ignition module without noticably slowing the starter.
