No, I can see very well that you embody that very quality. One of my siblings was intimately involved with the original report before it was heavily redacted by the executive branch.

Hey Larry! You remember that piece o' real estate you said you missed out on purchasing in San Diego years ago? Well dude, I hear there's a house in Kevin's neighborhood down in Tucson for sale! Advantages to this move: (1) No more winters in Iowa and (2) You and Kevin can both sit together on his or your patio and throw those little catch-phrases like "left wingnut environmentalist wacko movement" back and forth to each other to your heart's content. Sounds like a win-win for you(and Kevin)to me, dude!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

"Yes", he says coming off the coldest winter in several decades, "we certainly will."
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

It's coming, fueled by ethanol and $12 a bushel wheat just like before. You can deny it or you can prepare. Carbon offsets and diminishing our CO2 emissions will have negligible effect if any at this point, we're well beyond that; a good plan is the only defense. Do you have a plan?

Those kind of droughts like that one in the 30s (80) years ago, came from unusually warm waters and over-farming. They have researched it and found that worse droughts have happened once or twice a century over the last 400 years. Those pilgrims and their SUVs screwed it all up! Do I have a plan? Yep, I am going riding today with no particular place to go. I am gonna burn gas and dump hydrocarbons every place I ride.

At last, consensus. I'm over the rest of it, we agree to disagree...let's ride

I mean, people are actually referring to Rush Limbaugh as some sort of authority
Why not? After all, if Al Gore can be then anyone can.
Who on here said Al Gore is an authority?
Pretty much the whole left wingnut environmentalist wacko movement treats him as if he is their leading light. He's the Pope of Global Warming and the darling of Hollywood, the Kyoto accorders, the UN, the Nobel committee and school teachers everywhere who force defenseless kids to sit through his factless piece of propaganda. Pretty much all those people who excuse outrageous lies in order to support their “greater truth†that is just another lie.
Anyone who repeats his propaganda, accepts his premises and touts his solutions is tacitly accepting his authority on the issue.
Again. Who on here (meaning this discussion board) referenced Al Gore as an authority?
You act as though Al Gore is the only person in the world who believes that global warming is reality.
Oh, I know it makes it easy to dodge the issue if you can simply attack one person to try to redirect a discussion. And of course it's a logical fallacy. But that's what passes for debate in some circles.
I'm not arguing. I know your views, and I know the facts.

Oh come now Bill, who said the rest of the world's opinion matters or for that matter has any serious scientists who may have an educated opinion?
Just a thought, but my guess is that 90 per cent of the world population have either forgotten or have (more probably) absolutely no idea who Al Gore is. That very same 90 per cent is taking the GW issue into consideration (some more, some less), without the help of the abovementioned gennellmann.
The population of Greenland (which is not as green as the name would imply) are saying that the ice in their country is melting at alarming rates (relatively speaking, of course) ... but WTF do they know anyway?
... just thinking aloud ...

07-08 Greenland ice is at a 15 year high. "High" that was not a typo. How was it lower 15 years ago. China has 4x more cars and industry as does India in the last 10 years. Just those alone should have accelerated the melting every year for the last decade. Quote:

I was asking the same thing myself.
Why do they call it Greenland? I will give you a hint. It involves Vikings, a few thousand years ago, and observations. oh, oh, could have been a warm period. Darn Vikings and their SUVs!
How do you explain high carbon levels in ice tube studies from way back? Warming periods happen through the years. Our little bit of additional carbon won't matter one little bit. You do remember we were all going to be dead by 1980, then 90, then 2000, now 2012, honest, no fooling this time 2020 is it, we are all gonna be treading water.
I just googled it! New York is not under water yet. Didn't even rise this year. That can't be can it? I love the graphic of the water flooding through Manhattan. At 2" a year its pretty darn hard to run from. Millions will die! Then there was the Malaria in Africa (news bulletin)90% of Africa is already warm enough for Malaria to culture. That scientist had to sue them to be taken off the credits of the movie.
It is really interesting how scientist can be so divided on this issue. It seems pretty black or white so must have a lot to do with who is paying the scientist paychecks. There are lots of grants out there for Green research. No grants for disproving the warming theory. Hmmm, no money to say it does not exist yet many do but lots of money to say it does exist.
I think I will go with the guy that isn't getting paid for his opinion. Just seems more honest to me.
Did 120 miles today on my Triumph and loved it. The travel was purely for pleasure. I may have killed a flower or a bug but am going out tomorrow too.

It would be hypocritical of me to attempt to argue for or against global warming for 2 reasons: a/ On the few occasions I drive my cage, it's a V12 5000cc gas guzzler. b/ Although of a scientific backround/education I haven't gotten involved and don't know enough, either way. Which is why I didn't ... and I won't. I have a friend who is a professor in nuclear physics in a university in Turkey. Her speciality for the last 6 or 7 years is that of analyzing atmospheric composition tendencies (I can't remember the exact description but it measures all sorts of things including carbon content). I am not sure she still wants to speak to me, though, but I will try and find a way as I would be interested in what her take is on this issue (being the expert). Quote:

In my 20 odd years of touring through countries I have learnt not to underestimate any nation. It historically backfires and could "shock and awe" ME instead.

I didn't ask. I been "dere" and have an idea already.
The Viking SUV reference made me laugh though.

Agreed.
The point of my previous post had, of course, very little to do with GW per se, but more to do with the localized and somewhat politicized (exclusive?) manner this GLOBAL issue (or non-issue) was touched upon within this thread ... but I guess that didn't register.
