Perhaps, perhaps not. These days, one can find an overwhelming amount of evidence either way. What is TRUE however, is that overuse of oil directly and indirectly supports terrorists, since it finds it's way into their hands through "friends" like Saudi Arabia, and enemies like Chavez and the Nutjob in Iran. So, don't buy a hybrid to save the planet, buy one to get the US off of the Middle Eastern Monkey....
