Read today that Triumph America and AHRMA have teamed up to create a new road racing series this year based around the Triumph Thruxton. Snot fair!! not only do you have all the best goodies, now you have best classic racing! thats it I'm going home to convince the wife we need to move to the USA. Is the Mayflower still sailing to Boston???

Here's the link for all the info, it's not just about Thruxtons, in fact, it was my understanding that any Trump is welcome to race. However, the Thruxtons will eat up our BA/SM's.

Hey Dean, If you're interested in seeing the Thruxtons race, there's the Sandia Classic in Albq, NM September 16-18. I went last year and it was a blast. Room rates aren't bad either. I stayed at a Super 8 for about $40 a night. I plan on going again this year.

They probably don't allow the black ones to run, there is a reason they call it *JET* black...

Was checking out the AHRMA board yesterday, and in a thread there they said it looks like they'll have soemthing like 15 Thruxtons lined up on the grid at Daytona.

Why, if I could get my *&#@! carbs working right I'd put on my old Torsten Hallman leathers and go for it...oops, sudden loss of reality. Besides, I think those pants have a 27" waist. The worst thing about gettin' old and trying to be young is...well, everything.

Hmmmm.... Wonder if that's why they pulled out of superbike racing at the end of past season? They did pretty well there, maybe they are now going to put all their effort into another sort of racing to show their wares to another market. So, what will be next? Hillclimbing maybe?
I just wish dirt track racing would catch on here again. There used to be some 6 or 8 tracks in reasonable driving distance, now they're all condos and shopping malls. Damned yupy scum are destroying the world!

Martyn, whilst the Mayflower has been permanently docked, the airlines have strove to at least keep up two facets of the original Mayflower voyage, for those who want to really know what it is like. First, they cram you into a very tight space, and dim the lights, just like the the hold of a 17th century sailing ship, then they hand you food that on a good day could easily pass for moldy worm-infested hardtack bread and saltpork. If you so like, to complete the occasion, you can bring along a noisy nagging wife to wail at you for the 9 hour flight (much like the incessant groaning of old ship timbers) and wear a large wide brim Puritan hat (although to be cool, you should turn it backwards on your head)...

Missed your post last week. I just don't see how Triumph can compete with the Japanese when it comes to racing. They just don't have that kind of R&D money to blow. I think Triumph is on the right track by making bikes for the street and not the track when it comes to their well being as a company. You catch little snippets in the reviews from bike mags about how great they are in the real world most of us ride, but in the end the reviewers either cave to their big $$$ advertisers and place the Triumphs down on the list, or they cater to the crowd of dyno numbers buyers.
Maybe Triumph can get back into AMA Superbike racing by getting them to adjust the rules for their triples. Some of the race classes allow bigger cc bikes for twins compared to the 4 bangers, like Formula Xtreme and Superstock, so maybe Triumph can get in the middle there with their triples allowing them to run more CCs against the 4 cylinder bikes.
The death of West coast flat track racing has been depressing. If the 2 proposed Bonneville entries in the AMA Grand National series do get off the ground after Daytona, the nearest race to me I think is Sturgis. That's 1,300 miles from me. And I don't even know what each team's plans are regarding how much of the schedule they're going to run, so it's not like I can make my reservations. It'd be a huge rush though to see them race! Maybe I should've had a huge garage sale, cashed in my change jug for greenbacks, and just taken off for Daytona. Who knows, I might not get another chance to see a Triumph race the flat track again after this year.
