I expected to see some PC rant. I'm pleased to see that it actually a reaction to the nonsense in the media and popular culture. Good rant. :-)
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

They publish their list of banished words each year, most of them I agree with, mostly over used sensless and annoying words.

Well, 'It is what it is' but I would like to know who "authored" it as the 'wordsmith' on this is obviously very misinformed. In this 'post 9/11' world there is nothing more exciting than 'waterboarding' while enjoying an 'Organic' picnic. Excuse me now as i am off too a 'webinar' to learn some new skills before the managerment 'surge' upon my cubicle on 'black friday' and hit me with the 'perfect storm' and 'throw me under the bus'. Phew, this is wearing me out. 8.30am in the morning and im using my brain. NOT GOOD! Probably need to get on with some work and 'give back' something to my employers. Must keep them 'sweet' seeing as there is talk of them closing us down which would 'decimate' the force here. Nearly got them all. I would have been able to do this much easlier 'back in the day' but right now im drawing a 'blank' on what to write next. Maybe i should just write some 'random' ramblings and maybe something will 'pop'. Got them all,

It's good to see them throw decimate under the bus

'Decimate' was actual a descriptive punishment in the Roman Legions. If a Legion had been cowardly or otherwise unfaithful, the entire unit would be punished by eliminating (executing) or scourging every tenth man in line after forming up regardless of the individual's own role or non-role in the reason for the punishment.

Yes, the Romans also used it to control captured populations by the same method. These days the term is so very misused... In some cases in the Roman Legion an unfaithful unit would be forced to "draw straws" and the winner would then be executed by the losers. Harsh to be sure, but it seems like it was an effective measure for them since so many of their troops were conscripted by less than savory means.

"Mentoring".. When I was a kid my Dad did not mentor me, he made me go to church, taught me what is right and wrong and if I did not do the right thing, then his hand "mentored" my behind.

Yeah, they had the same exact policy when I worked at Computer Associates...
