When I bought my 03 Speedmaster last year it already had the AI revoval kit installed. The bike has performed really well since I have owned it with only an occational pop on decel. I am running BUB pipes on it.

Today I happen to be checking my (stock located) K&N filter and my airbox and I had the LEFT side chrome faux cover and the other black plastic cover off. I noticed an open hole at the outside top of the airbox where I'm guessing the (AI removal kit) large rubber plug should be.

I don't know if the previous owner just omitted it to get more air through the carbs and made adjustments acordingly or if at some point it just fell out. Either way, the bike still runs good and I am hesitant to mess with it.

I am just worried about dirt and junk being drawn into the engine through the open hole. I was thinking of attaching some sort of screen over it or just installing another plug to see what happens.

Anyone else running without the AI rubber plug in the airbox?

2003 Speedmaster I won't rise to the occasion, but I'll slide over to it.
