Saw a Can-Am Spyder yesterday. I was driving down the road and happened to glance over at a Sheetz convenient store and something caught my eye. At first I thought it was a trike but the handlebars were at the end with two tires so I spun my truck around and went to check it out, it turns out to be a Can-Am Spyder. I looked at it for a couple minutes and the guy finally comes out of the store. I ask all the usual questions, but the guy doesn't really want to talk too much about it. I asked how it handled, he said pretty well but if you were a motorcycle rider it would take some getting used to, he said it is more suited to snowmobilers or ATV riders. I asked about performance and all he said was it runs well. He wouldn't talk numbers or anything. He may not have known any numbers either. He said he had to go to New York to find a dealer (Pioneer Motorsports I think) as there were no dealers in PA. It looks a whole lot like a snowmobile with tires instead of skis and a belt. Quality looked pretty good, it had a Rotax engine that looked to be a twin at a minimum but could have been a 4 cyl. It was different looking, anyone else see one in person? Not my cup of tea but wouldn't mind taking one for a ride for kicks.

Almost sounds like he was on a factory roadtest, they tend to not talk about what they are riding.

There is thread from last year.
I took one on a road test, and I think another member did also.

I caught a glimpse of a yellow one in Vegas last September. Got caught in traffic (shocking, I know) and couldn't track it down by the time I got going. I'm still intrigued but it's at least a days drive/ride to find one in any direction.

I rode them at demo rides on two different days. Longish rides-in the 45 mile range. It's a very nice product. Not really like a bike at all-more like a ATV that really handles and goes. It was plenty fast and a blast on some twisty roads after a bit of time to get used to it. They should sell a boat load of them. I took a fer H-D guys with me-guys who know bikes and how to ride-and they all liked it-which kind of suprised me that they would admit it!

I sat on one at the NY MC show in December. Looks and feels cool. No kickstand! lol You'd have trouble dropping one of these. With the price of gas going up I see lots of people having an interest in a ride like this.

There's a local dealer right across the highway from the Triumph shop. Looking forward to a test ride!

Hmmmmm....I wonder how hard it'd be to lane-split down the 405 with this sucker???

(though somethin's tellin' me a whole lot'a outside rear-view mirrors will be sittin' on the road if I'd try that)

Nope, sorry...I just don't "get it". You can't lean into turns with this thing, so what's the point? Even though I hear it's very nicely engineered and surprisingly stabile with it's computerized traction control, but still...what's the point?

(I suppose it would be kind'a fun to ride "somebody else's" once...for the novelty of it anyway)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Those of us who snowmobile like them. A lot like riding a sled-and yes, you can lean, but not like a bike. Not for me, but they are fun.
