PBS ran a piece on John Adams a couple nights ago. I missed part of the context, so feel free to correct where needed.

Apparantly Geo. Washington and Congress were debating some issue. President Washington asked Adams to write his position. In response, but lacking electoral orators Congress asked Adams to reply. Washington wisely then had Adams reply to the reply.

At some point Adams fell in deeply love and married a beautiful gal 17 years his junior. On their honeymoon they inadvertently stumbled across a Triumph dealership and ended up the parents of twins

It was a very cool story
